Even Kids Need an Adventure, 2
When Larkin reared, Ette was already in motion of casting a spell that would set her and Nate down gently on the ground fifty feet below. As soon as they touched down, Nate grabbed Ette's hand and pulled her after him. Together, they scrambled through the hole that Larkin and the others had been dragged through seconds before it closed.
"Holy hell," Nate muttered when their eyes got used to the semi darkness. The inside of the mountain had been converted into a military bunker of sorts. "It's like a Hunter's paradise in here!"
Placing her hand over Nate's mouth, Ette signaled him to be silent with the other. On the other side of the stack of weapons to their left, a pair of voices was heard but was speaking a language neither of them were familiar with. Casting a second silent spell so she could understand them, Ette put her mouth close to Nate's ear and translated.
[1] "We ought to kill the blasted creatures and sell their hides! That gold one will fetch a good price!"
"No, the deal was capture with as little harm as possible. I know your mind, Stephan, and need I remind you that our client will know that the beasts were killed if only to satisfy your bloodlust."
"For all we know, he may be of similar breeding to the beasts we hunt! We should kill him and be done with it!"
"And loose out on the information he gives us on a clan of dragons and all their beastly associates? [2] Not to mention the gold he provides us? No, not yet. Not until we have had a chance to kill those he has hired us for. Now, have your men found the two brats that fell off the gold one's back before it was brought in?"
"No, but the radar has pinged once or twice so I believe they're somewhere inside the mountain using weak magic."
Grabbing Ette's wrist, Nate quietly pulled her away to another location. From their new location on the top of a rather tall stack of crates, the two were able to get a better view of their surroundings. At the far southeast corner of the room, they could see Larkin and the others chained to the floor of a dragon scale cage. Surrounding the cage were several men carrying military grade rifles.
[ What are we going to do? ] Ette whispered, using the twin speech she and Nate had developed. [ We're outnumbered at least sixty to one and they have spell detectors! ]
[ Well we can't leave the way we came in, ] Nate replied, glancing over his shoulder as the hangar door in the mountain side clanged shut. [ And even if they're back yet, mom and Ms. O'Bowie are too far away to call for help. We'll have to do this ourselves. The hat put you in Ravenclaw for a reason. ] [3]
[ But I can't think of anything! ] Ette replied.
Looking at his sister for a moment, Nate sighed. "Alright. Stay here. I have an idea."
Climbing down the crates, Nate quietly sneaked through the warehouse until he was near the cage that was holding Larkin and the others. Taking his wand out of his back pocket, Nate took a steadying breath then walked boldly towards the cage. As the guards took notice of him, Nate pointed his wand at them. "Stupify! Stupify! Stupify! Stupify! Stupify!"
----
From her perch, Ette watched in horror as Nate walked boldly up to the cage, stunning the guards as they turned towards him. Suddenly, behind him a man appeared. Though the angle was wrong to be certain, Ette was quite sure the man used a form of telepathy similar to Flan's to send Nate crashing into the bars of the cage holding the others.
