Rescue and remaining behind
"Xink, what the hell are you doing here?" a female's voice whispered from behind them. As Waldo and Xink turned to see who spoke, she said, "Holy hell, is that you Wallaby?"
"Dai, how many times must I tell you my name is Waldo?" he sighed.
"You two know each other?" Xink asked, surprised.
"Oh yeah," Dai replied, grinning. "Pretty damned well. However..." Walking over to Waldo, Dai cold cocked him across the chin. "That, you damned a**, is for leaving me in the lurch with the goods!"
Popping his jaw back in to place--Waldo had forgotten just how hard Dai could hit--said, "I told you to leave it behind. It's not my fault you didn't listen and move your own fat a** out of there."
"It was worth--" Dai started.
"Not in front of the kid," Waldo said. "Why are you here?"
"I saw this one's alter ego bringing a rather young looking Dragon here," Dai replied, gesturing at Xink. "So I thought I'd follow along and be the big damned hero--return the favor and all."
Further down the hallway, a door exploded outward followed by a torrent of fire and much incoherent yelling. Several ice spikes flew out shortly afterward over a blanket of smoke.
"Are we sure we're needed?" Xink asked dubiously. "They seem to have it under control."
As Dai moved to Xink, Waldo said, "No. Leave him be."
"Are you sure?" Dai asked. "Its one of my 108 secret techniques. It'd make him much more useful."
"Even the other one he wouldn't be of use," Waldo said. "I broke his leg."
"You broke his leg?" Dai asked. "Why?"
"We haven't the time to discuss it," Waldo said. As he saw three young girls staggering out of the laboratory--two of them supporting a third [1]--Waldo said, "We're friends! This way!"
"She can't walk," the blonde said. "She's--"
"Been put through the grinder," Waldo said, walking over and picking Young Dragon up. As he was carrying her over to the horse, Waldo was shot in the back. Biting back a yell, Waldo managed to pass young Dragon off to Dai. "Get them out of here. I'll hold 'em off."
Nodding, Dai put young Dragon on the horse in front of Xink. Grabbing the hands of young Xangord and young Nogard, she pulled them along with the horse trotting along behind. "He'll be okay guys. He's suffered worse."
As Dai, the kids, and his horse form disappeared around the corner, Waldo turned to look at who shot him. "I'm getting a little tired of you shooting me in the back Xiggy."
"It's the only way you'll behave," Xigbar replied, raising his arrowgun and aiming between Waldo's eyes.
