The moment Broden entered the house where Lord Avondale could see him, the temperature dropped to below freezing.

"Stop that Nerissa," Dragon said.

"It's not me," Nerissa replied.

Before Dragon could register what Nerissa said, Lord Avondale dropped his cane and rushed at Broden while transforming into his dragon form. Transforming into his own dragon form, Broden deflected Lord Avondale's attack--only to be crushed beneath Rhonabwy's claw as the dragon god appeared in full form and pinned the younger dragon beneath him.[1]

"STOP! DESTROYING! MY! HOUSE!" Dragon bellowed, taking a different action with each exclamation: transforming into her dragon form, knocking Lord Avondale backward with one powerful swipe of her tail, encasing Lord Avondale in a block of ice, driving Rhonabwy back with a shower of ice shards to the god's eyes, and then encasing him in a block of ice as well. "If either of you try to break my ice blocks, Nerissa has full permission to use a gravity field on the two of you with the setting so high that you will each turn into a puddle of goo.

"Goo's not very threatening," Nogard stage whispered.

"Shut up," Dragon snapped to her. To Broden, Rhonabwy, and Lord Avondale; Dragon growled, "The three of you are going to tell me what the frock is going on here. Broden claims he's my brother. Lord Avondale and Rhonabwy attempt to kill him. Someone explain before I go Draxanog and kill ALL of you."

"Thaaaat's a better threat," Nogard said, nodding.

With a flick of her wrist, Dragon threw a shard of ice that wrapped itself around Nogard's mouth.

"They're pissed at me because it was I who--unwittingly mind you!--unleashed the rabbit demon spirit that split the three of you up," Broden said.

"How?" Creighton asked.

"When I was the twin's age[2]," Rhonabwy growled, "that rabbit demon came to our galaxy planning to overthrow us and take our place as the god over all the dragons. Obviously, the ten of us [3] were not going to allow for this. Even with ten against one, the battle was difficult as the rabbit demon was nearly stronger than all of us combined. We obviously did prevail and sealed the rabbit demon away."

"Oh don't claim you hate me for just that reason," Broden snidely replied. "The fact that I was hatched out of wedlock from a dragon you, at the time, did not approve of due to him being a gold dragon rather than a blue dragon. It's a wonder you kept him as a Dragoon afterward."

Pretending as though he had not heard Broden's comment, Lord Avondale said, "Broden had learned where the rabbit demon was had gone to explore the chamber. By that time, the body had been nothing more than dust, but the spirit was able to escape and infect your egg, Dragon. You know the rest of the story."

"Please!" Broden said. "I was only a thousand years old! We've all done stupid things! Do not blame me for my mistakes in youth!"

"He has a point," Xangord said. "Dragon blew up a whole planet when she was a thousand years old and Nogard slaughtered her entire family at the same age."

"Except mine wasn't an accident," Nogard said, after melting the ice gag. "Mine was premeditated and done with glee."

"If the two of you are to judge Broden for what he did and wish to kill him for it," Xangord said. "Then you must treat Dragon and Nogard exactly the same for their acts were equally horrible."

"Hey!" Nogard objected.

"Xan is right," Dragon said, releasing the ice prisons around Rhonabwy and Lord Avondale. "If you kill Broden, then you have to kill Nogard and I as well."
