Returning Home, 1
"No it isn't," Nogard replied to Xangord's claim of the food being poisoned.
"And just how the hell do you know that?" Dragon asked.
"Because he's not going to kill us," Nogard replied.
"Meimei [1]," Xangord said. "Think back. Whenever we've been captured, we were never treated this way."
"This isn't like those other times," Nogard replied having finished her tray of hamburgers and was eying Dragon's and Xangord's platters. "Broden isn't going to hurt us. I'm not sure why he hasn't revealed himself to you two until now but he's not going to hurt us."
"You've met him before?" Dragon asked. "When? Where?"
"Let me give you a hint," Nogard said. "You know how just about every time I see someone, I say something to the effect of 'How many times do I have to kill you?' "
"He's from your realm in Dragon's head?" Xangord asked.
"I think he's more of an alternate reality version," Nogard said, shrugging. "I remember him being less scarred and giving off more of a frightened aura."
The door to the Egg Room opened and Broden leaned against the frame. "I am from your realm. You gave me the scars and the new personality."
"Oh really?!" Nogard asked. "Huh. Wonders never cease. Now you're not going to be as revenge seeking as Larkin is are you? That crap gets old real quick."
"No," Broden said. "I'm a bit more forgiving than her as I know it's simply the rabbit demon in you driving your actions than who you really are deep down."
"Please don't feed me that bull," Nogard groaned as Broden walked over. "Unless you want me to actually kill you."
"After all that has happened," Broden said, examining the sisters. "I doubt it. ... It's been a week and you three look just about well enough to travel. I had best be getting you home before Rhonabwy starts rampaging about looking for his granddaughters."
