I do--and I would have written this this morning if I wasn't going to be late to work. When the first plane it, I was was in the library waiting for first bell--my first period was Library Aide. The following is various conversations throughout the day:
Mrs. Robinson (librarian): "Guys, come here!"
Me: "Huh? What?" *walks over to the multimedia section of the library where there's always a TV on flipped to MSNBC*
Mrs. Robinson: *points at the TV* "A plane just hit the world trade center."
Me: "Was he drunk? The Trade Center is a little hard to miss."
Mrs. Robinson: "I don't know."
Ida: "Hey, what's up?"
Me: "The World Trade Center got hit by a drunk piolet."
Ashley: "What?"
Me & Mrs. Robinson: *point at the TV*
Later on when the second plane hits. By this time the library is getting packed with students watching the news reports.
Me: "Odds are high that there's two drunk piolets."
Tiara: "Too much of a coincenece for that."
Melissa: "Who would hit the trade centers?"
After news reports of terrorisim, reports of a third plane having crashed short of the pentagon, & more students have come in to watch the reports.
Me: "There's no way this can be happening."
Tyrel *resident paranoid conspiritist*: "Oh it's happening alright."
Me: "Ty, I'll have none of your paranoid banter right now please."
Tyrel: "I wasn't going to. Not with Suzy within earshot."
Me: *turns and sees Suzy* "Oh Suze..."
Suzy, btw, is a student that transferred from NYC to St George KS the year before. I don't remember the reason. Then, after the towers fell.
Me: *tearing up* "Oh ********..."
Mr. Schmitz (history): "You said it..."
Once all three lunch periods were over, the administrators decided to cancel all the classes since just about everyone was cramming into the library to watch the news. They moved everyone into the gym to watch the reports.
It still breaks my heart to think back on that day when so many good people died in senseless violence...and even today it pisses me off to think that there were people who protested not fighting back.
I agree now the war is stupid, but back then, I had this view: "Okay, if you don't think we should fight back after getting attacked, then don't you DARE lift a finger against me when I beat the crap out of you for no reason at all!"
