Dream Sequence
"It's nearly time," Aizbeth said to Vhictor, smiling. She was cuddled next to a large blue egg with minute stripes of red.
"Have you ever found out what the streaks of red mean?" Vhictor asked, laying next to his wife.
"No," she replied, looking at the egg. "No one seems to know, not even the Council elders."
"I would have thought that either Rhengon or Bavmillion would know..."
"So did I but they claim ignorance--oh! It's starting!"
At that moment, minute cracks appeared on the egg's surface as the hatchling struggled to push its way out of the egg.
"There's something wrong with it," Vhictor said suddenly, backing away.
"No there's not," Aizbeth replied. "Its perfect."
"Are you blind!" Vhictor growled, turning into his human form. "Did you not see the splurt of fire that came from the hatchling's nose!"
"No I did not," Aizbeth said, turning into her human form. Standing between the hatching egg and Vhictor, she said carefully, "Perhaps it is you who is seeing things."
Grabbing Aizbeth's arm, Vhictor pulled her away from the egg as a dual spout of flame and ice shot skyward. "Do not tell me you missed that."
"Something is definitely wrong with our hatchling," Aizbeth said, clinging to Vhictor.
Before either of them could do anything, the egg exploded apart as the hatchling released another dual jet of ice and fire. Looking at her parents, the hatchling growled playfully and turned into her human form.
"The egg has been infected by the Rabbit Clan!" Aizbeth cried.
"If I ever find out who--" Vhictor started to say when the hatchling darted forward to attack.
The fight was short but very gruesome. For every one hit Vhictor blocked, the hatchling scored an additional three vital hits. Groaning from blood loss, Vhictor sank to his knees. Growling, the hatchling darted forward a final time.
"NO!" Aizbeth cried, running towards the two.
"No Aizbeth!" someone said, grabbing her arm and pulling her back. "She'll just kill you too!"
"Let me go!" Aizbeth said, struggling.
"There's nothing you can do, Vhictor is too far gone. It is a mercy what the hatchling is doing."
Turning her head to look at who was holding her, Aizbeth said, "Lord Avondale..."
