"We don't have time to discuss this," Dugan said, pushing me into the second chair. "Beryl, Montana, go sit down!"
As I opened my mouth to ask what was so bad, Dugan leaned forward and pressed a large red button. Suddenly, I was thrown backward into my chair as the stars stretched backwards and we went into warp drive.
"The ********?!" I exclaimed, feeling gravity shove me further into the chair.
"Buckle up," Dugan said.
"Why?" I asked.
Instead of replying, Dugan took his hand off the red button and I was thrown forward from the sudden stop. Quick as lighting, Dugan grabbed the collar of my coat and pulled me back before I could slam into the windows. Just as quickly, Dugan threw me through the door. I had barely gotten a chance to climb to my feet when a fist came out of thin air and slammed into my stomach. Wheezing, I sank to my knees. A hand clamped on the back of my neck and twisted me into the air. Out of nowhere, a leg slammed into my side and shot me across the hall and into the storage facility.
I had barely stopped rolling across the floor when Dugan lifted me up by the front of my coat and slammed me against a wall. Drawing his gun, Dugan charged it--despite the gun looking like a Smith & Wesson Volcanic pistol, it charged like a laser gun rather than cocking like a normal gun--and pressed it against my right temple. "You're a Zacharee?"
"If I say yes you're going to turn my brain into scrambled eggs?" I asked, coughing.
"Most likely."
"Okay, then I'm not a Zacharee."
Firing a plasma blast into the wall an inch from my head, Dugan said, "You said the logo belonged to your family. That's the Zacharee Corporate logo. Are you or are you NOT a Zacharee?"
"If I say yes you're going to kill me!" I said.
"And if you lie I'll kill you!" Dugan replied.
"Then what the ******** do you want me to say?!" I asked. "No matter what I say I'm dead! Do I not even get a chance to find out why being a Zacharee is bad?!"
"Shoot 'er Cap," Shane said. "A'int no Zacharee has ever been any good."
"Shut up," Dugan and I replied.
"Don't tell my man to shut up," Dugan said to me.
"If he wasn't talking about shooting me, I wouldn't've had said anything," I replied.
Suddenly, the Kyle look alike stood next to Dugan. If Dugan's hand had not been pinning me to the wall, I would have moved away despite knowing that the look-alike could not be the same Kyle I knew. Placing a hand on Dugan's shoulder, he said, "Dugan, can I show you something?"
Pressing his gun into my forehead hard enough for me to start thinking my head was going to crack between the pressure of the gun against my forehead and the pressure of the wall behind me, Dugan removed his hand from my throat to take a piece of paper from the look alike. Looking at me then at the piece of paper, Dugan leaned over and whispered something to the look alike who nodded. Looking at me again for a moment, Dugan asked, "What is your first name?"
"Milly," I replied. "Why?"
Holstering his gun, Dugan asked, "What's the exact last thing you remember?"
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Just answer the chikushou question," Shane said.
"Well since you asked so nicely," I replied, "the last thing I remember is my best friend who looks like your boy there dying with a piece of my apartment door sticking out of his chest."
"Any thing else?" the look alike asked.
"Um," I replied, "it was Christmas Eve, Kyle was asking me to go over to his house, then all hell broke loose."
"Details?" Beryl asked
"There's not much more than my door exploding open," I replied. "Guys in white NFPA suits burst in as Kyle died and using cow tasers on me."
"Cow tasers?" Montana asked.
"Yes," I replied, "cow tasers. Now can I ask what the hell is wrong about being a Zacharee?"
"The Grims you fought?" Dugan said, backing off a little. "Ian and Rella? They are all the results of the Zacharee Corporation screwing with people's genetic make up."
"The company my parents started did that s**t?" I asked.
"Word is they started with their daughter," the look alike said. "But something happened and the girl had disappeared. Cuthbert and Eleanor Zacharee claimed their daughter had run away with her friend Kyle Foxx, but my family felt otherwise since my several-times-great uncle was not one who would run away like that."
"No, Kyle was not like that at all," I agreed sadly. Shaking my head, I looked at the look alike and said, "Kyle is your uncle?! That means little Gavin grew up and got married! Oh I wish I could have seen that. He was such a cute two year old."
"The Kyle you knew is also my namesake," the look alike said. "My parents thought I looked like him so they named me Kyle."
"Creepy One: You look like the Kyle I know--knew," I replied. "Creepy Two: You have his same first name. Please tell me you don't have Creepy Three by having the same last name?"
"My last name is Foxx," the look alike said.
"Oh, lovely, as though it's not bad enough you look like Kyle Foxx," I said. "But you have to be NAMED Kyle Foxx too!"
There was a few moments of silence as I stared at the seven crew members of the BluGem and they stared back at me.
"It's been a long day for all of us," Dugan said. "Beryl, Montana; help Milly get situated in the spare quarters."
"Yes Captain."
