Would survival in a zombie apocalypse be easier in a colder or warmer climate?
Well, that would depend on what you mean. Are you’re talking about which climate can benefit survivors? Or which climate can affect zombies to make survival easier?
Humans are capable of adapting to almost any kind of environment especially if they have the proper tools. But that decrease drastically when they don’t have the basics like electricity plumbing and so on. In the past humans were able to survive without the advancements we have today but with zombies as a constant threat, it would be a lot harder. For example, canned goods would eventually end and survivors would have to resort to growing or hunting their food. That doesn’t sound so terrible but it is when they live in a colder climate. It would be a hazard and extremely difficult for any human to survive.
Lack of food, free-standing water, exposure, frostbite and the limited ability to move through snow are very dangerous environmental hazards as well.
However, a colder climate might not be completely terrible. It wouldn’t just affect the survivors but the zombies as well.
A human body, even a dead one, is still about 90% water, and water freezes in the winter when the temperatures drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Zombies have no body heat, so they would freeze solid, including moisture in their brain. When water freezes, it expands, so any fluid in the brain or around it such as the subarachnoid area on the surface of the brain would freeze and cause rupturing of the brain tissue and extensive trauma, destroying the zombie in all likelihood.
Even if zombies could somehow survive such brain trauma, they would be frozen solid, unable to move, and would be easy pickings for any human with a weapon. So a colder climate could actually be beneficial for survivors. They wouldn’t have to worry so much about zombies as long as they take care of them before they defrost.
As for living somewhere with a warmer climate, survivors would be able to move around easily. They could find more animals to hunt and it could be the perfect environment to grow food. But they would have a higher risk of dehydration and dizzy spells from the heat.
Zombies are rotting corpse and the heat would aid in deteriorating them even further. It could be possible that zombies can died in this climate too, because the heat can remove whatever fluids remains in them. After all, in order for zombies to functional there needs to some type of fluid that allows the brain to run the body. It is the only logical way for zombies to operate, even though they are highly improbable.
