There are some people who don't know what RDM means. There are also some people who seem to forget what situations qualify as RDM. Then there are people who are jerks that know exactly what it is and still do it.
RDM stands for Random Death Match. What qualifies as RDM is when you kill someone for unexplainable, unreasonable, or false reasons. Here are some examples of RDM:
1. You kill someone just because they looked/aim their weapon at you funny.
2. There are 4 people left, you are innocent, you know one person is a traitor, yet you kill everyone you see.
3. When you kill your own teammate intentionally.
4. When you kill someone just because they walked into the same room you're in.
5.Throwing an incendiary grenade into an elevator containing a group of people and not caring if they are allies or not.
6. Killing someone without proof if they are an enemy.
7. You kill someone because you disagree with them over something trivial.
8. You kill someone just because you wanted their weapon, even though you can find the same weapon lying around.
9. Killing a player just because they were near a dead body or stopped moving for a moment to go into their inventory.
10. When you kill someone as soon as they spawned or before the game officially started.
Basically, RDM is just killing someone without a reason or in some cases killing them without a GOOD reason. This can vary from situation to situation and are often defined by the servers. But what I listed above are the universal situations of Random Death Match. With RDM there are penalties, such as being banned, either permanent or temporary, or an admin using the Slay command to kill the guilty party.
Now, here are situations that are not RDM:
1. You see someone following you, you ask them to stop and you warned them more than once. If they still follow you then you may kill them.
2. As a detective, when you check multiple bodies that last saw the same person, than you can kill them.
3. When your character's job/class allows mugging. You shout, "Give me all your money or I will kill you!" When a player fails to meet your demands, you can kill them.
4. Accidental killing of someone; for example, you might bump into another character and they fall off to their death. Or they ran/walked into your line of fire. Or you mistook them for another player that was shooting at you.
5. You witness someone carrying a deadly weapon that only a traitor could have without a logical explanation of how they got it, you may kill them.
6. You see someone shoot at you or shoot at another player from a distance and you chase after them and kill them.
7. You use the DNA scan on a dead innocent who you believe to have died by a traitor's hands. You may kill the killer so long as you say that your DNA scan indicated that they're the killer.
Sometimes there are situations that are difficult to classify as a RDM. But here are some examples that clear up what is RDM and what isn't.
Standing in a room and letting everyone know that you are in the room and if they enter, you will kill them. 1. It is RDM when you straight up kill whoever enters the room. 2. It is not RDM when you remind the person that you will shoot if they do not leave the room. If they ignore your warning and stay then it is okay for you to kill them.
You see a player kill another player in front of you.
1. It is not RDM if you kill the person that runs away after shooting someone without a reason to do so or shoots at you. 2. If a person runs up to identify the body, it is likely that they are innocent. If you kill them, especially if you're not a traitor, it is RDM. 3. If the killer is a detective, you can not shoot him if you're an innocent. But if you're a detective you can only kill someone if you have proof that they are a traitor or they shot at you. Otherwise it is RDM if you don't have a plausible reason to kill them.
