It was a Sunday afternoon and I was bored. I turned the tv, hoping that my basic cable would finally show an entertaining movie and one that I haven't seen a million times or was old. My first try I didn't find anything but I gave it one more chance and I saw the opening of a movie called. "The Quick and the Dead". The title was what sucked me in and made me quite excited because my first thoughts was, "Sweet! An Zombie movie! I haven't seen this one before and it looks decent." As I continue watching I was starting to suspect it was a zombie movie that happen during the western time and I found that to be all the more interesting. Of course, after that thought I realize it's not what I had in mind. I made the connection of the title when they mentioned a tournament and I remember that back in those days they had those quick draws. You had to be fast or else you're dead, basically. But I wasn't turned away once I realize it wasn't a zombie movie. I actually kept watching because the main character was a woman and I don't see that many tough woman as a lead character in a Western film. I'm glad I watched it because it turned out to be a pretty good film to watch on a boring Sunday afternoon. But personally I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it again. Why? Because some of the characters were lacking depth, there were moments that seem unrealistic and it seem a little predictable too. But it does have it's strong points, like the detail in their costumes and their manners (aside from Sharon Stone's character...I just didn't buy the whole silent, impassive and mysterious vibe she was trying to go for. It just made the character seem uninterested in what's going around her. She felt unreachable to us, the audience and the other characters on the screen. So it was a bit difficult to try to connect with her and understand what she was going through.) All in all, the movie still entertained me which I guess it the main thing. And it was decent enough to get me writing a little entry about it. Besides, I find it surprising that I enjoyed it in the first place since I'm not one for westerns. The Quick and the Dead (1995) Summary: Ellen, an unknown female gunslinger rides into a small, dingy and depressing prairie town with a secret. The town owned by a ruthless gunslinger, Herod, hosts an elimination tournament. The prize is a pot filled with a large amount of money and the only one rule: that you follow the rules of the man that set up the contest.
