I totally meant to post this up sooner but I forget I even had a journal. XD But here it is now, my little rant on costumes.
Is it me or has Halloween costumes become too sexy?
Seriously. I had a very hard time looking for a costume that I felt comfortable in, wasn't childish and/or wasn't revealing, especially the adult women's costumes. Everything was a skanked-up version of something: skanky fairy tale character, skanky law enforcement officer, skanky super hero....and so on. All the costumes seems to be made for woman who are fit, with long legs and big boobs in mind.
So, looking for a costume for a very short person like me, who's pretty much is average is difficult. Why? Because I get judge a lot by people thinking I'm a preteen or a teenager already. I don't want to pick an costume from the preteens/teens section because of that.
It's like admitting defeat. And I if I'm going to go to a club or to a party, the last thing I want is to give someone more of a reason to stop me like a bouncer or a police. Sure I'll flash my I.D. in proof that I'm an adult but it's still annoying to not look my age.
Anyway, that's not the only problem. Another reason why I also don't like the costumes for the tween and teens is that they're also revealing too. They're a little more modest than the adult costumes but it's not much that separates them either. Besides majority of them were also pretty much junior-sized versions of the same skanky costumes.
I wonder what parents of preteens/teens were thinking when they got a costume like a dominatrix (actually I've seen a WHOLE lot worst than that...) for their daughters? Honesty, if I had a daughter and saw her wearing something that, she would get an earful about why wearing something like that is wrong for her age and the type of message she's giving out by doing so.
Basically, can't we at least let girls reach adulthood before being socialized into this?
I just hateeeeeee it.
Halloween isn't just for little kids. But Halloween isn't for just for adults either. I don't want to see a 12 year old wearing a tight fake white leather little two piece that makes up a nurse costume. Wearing something that revealing around little children (and if it's an 18 year old or older, I would hope they have a coat to put over it so they won't get cold but also won't show that much skin either to little ones if they happen to be around them) and grown men and boys her age.
One of the biggest message it gives off is that girls dress like sluts on Halloween because she can get away with it and show her stuff. All for attention really. And that's just wrong, because it's not the right attention. Sure it's nice to be appreciated for looking nice but dressing like a skank is not the way to do it.
Which brings me to another point. Aren't they aware that there are a lot of perverts and creeps out there that get off on that? Your chances of danger increases if you're walking around late at night wearing a skimpy outfit and aren't in a large group of friends.
There's always a right way to do things and I hope that next Halloween there'll be a lot more CUTE costumes than skanky ones.
