Exilda motioned to Kathrynia to come sit at her feet. She hesitated for a moment before she did so. Exilda took a brush from the nightstand and began to brush Kathrynia’s long red gold hair. The awkward silence was broken, “You know what you did was dangerous?” There was no answer. “There could have been Mortu out there.” “Mom, they are going to destroy the forest, does no one care?” “Good riddance,” as she begun to braid Kathrynia hair. “Mother…” “That is the reason that no one goes out on full moons, for they are afraid, the magic, that is, at is strongest. Afraid of going mad.” “But, what of all the herbs, animals, and wondrous thing the forest has to offer. The forest is too big, to glorious to be turned into a barren wasteland. And they did not go mad, Mortu were just afraid that what they were saying is true, to suppress the people, to steal our hope of freedom from them.” “Where do you get those ideas...from Rath I presume. If I could I would have kept him from ever joining this rebel army.” “Mom, you should be supportive. He is trying to save us, from them.” “He is more likely to be killed than do any thing to get rid of them. Just use him and his reckless friends as examples of what happen to rebels,” she finished braiding, throwing the long braid over Kathrynia’s shoulder. “Time for midday meal,” called Arthur. As Kathrynia walked out the door, she called back, “It is the midsummer’s full moon and our King will raise to destroy the Mortu once and for all.” She had no idea why she said that, but she hoped it to be true. “Well, Happy Birthday. Soon you will learn that dreams sometimes do not come true.” Rath opened his door, hearing Kathrynia.
