Wii U exclusive ZombiU could eventually make its way to PS3, Vita, Smartglass and Xbox 360. It’s not going to be coming out anytime soon and it wouldn’t be exactly the same but that’s good news for people who aren’t interested in getting the Wii U for it.
I was pretty excited when I heard about ZombiU (formerly Killer Freaks from Outer Space). It’s a first-person shooter video game from Ubisoft and it’s all about surviving the the zombie apocalypse which takes place in the UK. This game is more about survival then telling a story.
The player has to stay alive as long as possible through whatever challenges they face. Unlike other games this adds elements of realism in it, there’s no pausing when you bring up the inventory screen, there’s no safe rooms scattered about, or infinite amount of health or ammo. And it only takes one bite from a zombie to kill you.
What’s very unique about this game is that once you die (and you will) your character wakes up as a zombie, and you respawn into another randomly generated person in a nearby safehouse. You pretty much become reincarnated into another survivor. You, as the new character can reach the same point that your previous character was at, to find them as a zombie trying to kill you. There’s no limits in how many times you die/become reincarnated into another survivor.
Another aspect is that you can only access your backpack filled with supplies on the WiiPad. It forces you to be constantly on alert, keeping your attention on both screens in order to work quickly, and to be nervous. Remember, there’s no pausing when you access your inventory, in this case your backpack. The same with picking locks and looting. At any time a zombie can attack you when you’re doing those things.
The WiiPad also acts as a scanner, allowing you to ping for items, which are then highlighted on the main screen. You can use it to hack keypad locks, as a flashlight for your character and it acts as a sight or scope for weapons, allowing you to aim with the gyroscope and line up the shot on the screen. This game was created just for the Wii U and that’s why I didn’t expect that the company would consider porting it to other platforms if they can successfully replicate what “makes the game cool”.
I’m interested in the game, ZombiU because it seems like it’s fun and it doesn’t seem to hold anything back (because some games do censor and limit themselves). I’m not interested in playing on the Wii U so hearing that news is awesome. I don’t have that much experience in using the Wii itself, so I fear how horrible I will be when trying out the WiiPad (if I ever came across one). And if anyone is planning to get this game for the WiiU then I highly recommend that you also get a second game. Something tells me you’ll need to practice with a lay back game first to help you get use to the WiiPad.
