Dean Winchester + Dante Sparda = Similar |

After all this time, I made a connection as to why I like Dean Winchester from Supernatural and Dante Sparda from Devil May Cry. My first fictional video game love is Dante. My first actor/fictional tv show character love is Jensen Ackles/Dean Winchester.
When I first got into Supernatural I couldn’t decided who I liked more, Sam or Dean. So all of season one I love them equally but as time passed their personalities develop even further and I started leaning towards Dean. Seven seasons in and I will always adore Sam but Dean is my favorite.
Now, that made me think…why do I like Dean so much? I can’t help but think that it might have to do with why I like Dante. It’s their personality, the way they do things, the things they say, how they react, etc. When you truly think about it, they are quite similar to each other.
Both Dante and Dean follow the footsteps of their fathers. Weeding out and destroy evil.
They both have brothers. Dante has a twin brother, Vergil. Dean has a younger brother, Sam.
Both of their mothers were killed by demons when they were young. Which fueled their families actions. The Winchesters became hunters, hunting anything of the Supernatural sort that endangered the lives of others. Dante became a Demon Hunter in hopes of finding his mother’s killer (and his brother’s, who he thought died back then), and also to protect others.
They went through hell and back (literally) to save their brothers in some form or another. Dean practically sold his soul, and Dante regardless, of what he may have said still followed Vergil into hell to fight him, stop him, and deep down, hoping he could save him from the darkness in his soul.
They both are fighters.
They run into a situation regardless of the danger, especially when it means someone’s life is at stake.
They’ve sacrificed so much for their missions, for the hunt. They can no longer go back to normal lives. Not when deep down they both know if they were to stop that innocent blood would be spilled. They’re in too deep but ultimately both realize that this is for the greater good. Besides, even if they did stop they know they’ll always be pulled back in. It doesn’t matter if they’ve stopped hunting. To monsters/demons they will always be a threat and a hunter will always be a hunter.
They do what must be done, even if it means taking out someone who became an unfortunate victim in the fight against darkness. They make the tough decisions, the ones done for the greater good.
They defy the odds. And even when things look their bleakest they manage to overcome great obstacles.
Both Dante and Dean are smart asses and like making jokes.
They like to drink.
They both like food. Dante loves pizza. And everyone who watches Supernatural knows that Dean loves food, especially pie.
They’re flirts and sexy as hell!
Both of their names begin with “D”.
They both try to hide their pain and they never like to admit it, even when it’s obvious they are hurting. They’re the kind of people who keep such things to themselves.
Dean and Dante have sacrificed their very lives to destroy all who wishes to plague and kill the innocent. They’ve already lived through pain and loss first hand and they fight to save others from that fate. They’re men who know who they are and don’t shy away from their true personalities even if it makes them seem cocky and arrogant. At the end of the day though, they’re both noble characters. They fight for others with no expectation of reward or recognition. They’re the unsung heroes. And frankly, the type of people I’d have watching my back any day.
It’s makes sense why I love them so much. They are similar but not exactly the same.
