This world is so obsessed with image that it seems to idolize a certain type, and aspects of what a person should be, depending on where you are. I have a friend who’s tall as hell and it’s a perk for her because she’s going on to be a basketball athlete. When we stand besides each other it’s pretty darn obvious that we are of opposite heights. Standing besides her makes me appear even shorter then I am and when she stands besides me, she appears even taller. We don’t come close to what it is consider as “average” height for our ages.
I feel her pain when she tells me the difficulties of being an abnormal height. Even when people point it out and vice verse when I tell her about mine. We joke around with each other about our heights (such as we should be a superhero team because we balance each other out) but that’s because we have an mutual understanding of what it’s like to be odd when it comes to heights.
However, that understanding seems to be lacking with everyone else. It’s like they’ve never see short people (or tall and whatnot) ever before. Is it that hard to believe that there are people who are 4’7” and are 22 years old or older? That a person doesn’t have to be a dwarf to be consider short?
I know some people don’t come across adults who look like children in their life. But please, when you do meet someone like that don’t feel obligated to inform them of that fact. It’s very rude and annoying for that person. Short people know they are short and they don’t need to be reminded of it more then they already are.
That’s just like telling an obese person that they are fat. Or pointing out to someone that they have a large nose, or big ears. Doing any of that would be rude and those kind of things are unnecessary observation to even say out loud.
