I've always had a mild fascination with faeries, if my username is any indication. I just love fantasy things in general, but the whole nature-meets-romance aesthetic associated with faeries is just beautiful. Recently, however, I was looking at a goth site (I'm certainly not goth myself, but I do enjoy the style and was interested in learning more about it), when I noticed a section called "Faerie Goth."
Quickly, I clicked the link, and was fascinated by what I saw! The clothes were so romantic and beautiful, and all the pictures I've seen just look so ethereal and beautiful! Of course, the wings do bring it dangerously close to "costume" territory for me, but, if worn at the right location and the right time, I find the style so beautiful.
But, as I said, there really only are a few places that I think the style doesn't look too costume-y. I know, I'm one to talk; I dress like a frilly princess on an everyday princess and won't hesitate to throw on that tiara for any occasion imaginable, but I DO dress down when necessary (ie, I limit myself to simpler pieces and skirt/cutsew combos for school). Faerie Goth is such an extravagant style that I can really only see it working at a Renaissance Faire, or a photoshoot, or goth-related events- but somehow that makes it even more special. Like a beautiful party dress, the fact that it's really only appropriate at certain times and places somehow makes the style even more alluring!
Someday, I'd really like to wear a Fairy Goth ensemble, but at the moment it's just impractical. I'm getting my hair dyed pink soon (though, I guess I could work that into some kind of sugar fairy goth style? razz ), and as it is I struggle to make enough to maintain a decent-sized wardrobe for my ever-changing body (one of the downsides of weight). Perhaps one day, when I have a well-paying job and can afford such a thing, I'll dress in Fairy Goth!! heart
