If you are or have ever been a fan of anime or manga or Japanese pop culture in general than you've probably come across Pocky. It's popular in Japan and was an instant hit among Japanese teenagers and can be seen in many anime. But for those that don't it's a biscuit stick coated with chocolate. Sometimes the chocolate is coated with little chucks of almond. If not, it might be coated with other favors like strawberry, mousse, milk, green tea, honey, banana and coconut.
The bittersweet version of chocolate Pocky is known as Men's Pocky. Dessert Pocky features Pocky sticks covered in a generous helping of cream. These flavors include double chocolate, tiramisu, chocolate banana, marron white, chestnut, strawberry shortcake, and orange. Dessert Pocky usually comes with five packets in a box with three in each sleeve.
There's also Pocky G which is a Giant Pocky box that contains either strawberry or chocolate flavored ones. Every box contains 20 individually wrapped sticks with real dried strawberry; each stick is about 10" long, and approximately 3 times the diameter of a normal Pocky stick. Another type of Pocky is the Reverse Pocky which is a cracker on the outside with the filling in the middle.
It's pretty much an official snack to those dedicated otaku and weeaboos. They absolutely love it and go ape crazy when they see it on sale, especially at anime conventions. If you're ever interested in trying some you can find it in Asian supermarkets and the international section of big supermarkets like some selected Walmarts, f.y.e. and so on.
My favorite is strawberry, milk and sometimes green tea or chocolate. I love having my Pocky with coffee. To me it seems to give it that extra boost of favor or at least add another a level of enjoyment when I have them. There might be other favors that I might love too but I have yet to try them all to know for sure. Sometimes it's difficult to pick a favorite since all flavors are unique and good in their own way, some more than others. For some people, one favor might not be that great but for another it could be quite tasty to them. So don't knock all Pocky if you've come across some that don't reach your tastes. There might be one out there just for you that you haven't tried yet.
