Over a month ago my family has decided to get a fish tank and start having fish again. Back when my father was young he used to own a big tank with several different kinds of fish, he was a pro- so you can say that he's starting fresh for old times sake. It's a fifty five gallon tank with black gravel and sand as well as organic wood and logs for the fish. We then got seven neon tetras to start off with in the tank. They where cheap but yet provide a beautifull color of red and blue- my top three favorite colors which just makes it a bonus! 4laugh Regretibly six out of seven of the neons have died from the stress of being taken out of the store and to a new home, however, that one tetra that survived became pretty strong and grew up rather quickly within the next week or two. I came to like the little guy and the fact that it swims out in the middle of the open despite being alone and a school kind of fish, so i decided to give it a name. I called it Neo.
I might change the name but i want others to have a vote on the names that i have in mind for the change.
Anyway, after about two weeks of having Neo, we've went back to the fish store where we got the seven neons earlier and bought a couple more- about a dozen. That's not all however, we also bought a cherry shrimp (although my dad wanted 2,) and six ghost shrimp- oh, and four baby fresh water snails. After taking them home and trying to slowly introduce them to their new home, they all seemed to have made it fine at July 29. Today there was one dead ghost shrimp so far, but i'm suprised to see that there are no dead fish this time. It looks like they are going to be living otherwise and like the place like Neo does, who has gotten big in comparison to them and stands out from every other neon by actually not sticking around with them often and being a solitary and individual in the school, which allows me to keep the name on him because of that. Sadly my dad had to make it harder on the new arrivals when he came home at around 2-3 PM, putting in a bunch of plants and having to move the logs around- which is where we found another dead shrimp. From what my dad saw, those two shrimps are the only dead ones, which makes me glad that this time it's working out. It worries me that the sudden change in environment will stress them back to square one on hoping for them.
Anyways, that's my report on the tank for now, there's still a lot of room and there's sure to be more fish added in as well, so i'll be posting more journals about them since i want others to know. Oh and there's no need to be afraid to comment on the tank, suggest on what kind of fish to put in there or other fresh water critters and so on like that.
Statistics for July 30: Neo: 1/1 Neon tetras: 11/12 [update: 8:06 PM] Cherry shrimp: 1/1 (from what i can see from the dead shrimp. The cherry shrimp i saw before put into the tank is a lovely rose color.) Ghost shrimp: 4/6
Oh, and i'll list the names to vote on, you can comment the vote or PM the vote- although i recommend commenting on it so i can gather it all up at once: Sparky Rander Bert E-tan Quia Or keep the name Neo?
You're allowed two votes on two different names.
