Chapter 24- Abandoned Library
I felt my back hit a wooden floor. That was not my best landing. Where was I? Last thing I remember was Maya, Jason, Lin and myself fighting our parents and the dark lord. I inhaled, using the shelfs around me as a support to stand up. A library? I looked around me only seeing shelfs and shelfs full of books. I saw light shine through a window, meaning it was still day time. I took a breath.
"Maya where are you?" I asked, looking at dusty books
"Marco" Maya echoed back to me jokingly
"Polo" I laughed, now standing at her side
"Where are we?" I picked out one or two books, quickly skimming through them
"A library?" Maya raised her eyebrow
"No duh. I mean village wise" I rolled my eyes and smiled
"I don't know" Maya smiled back to me, walking off to search for more books.
The library was dark and dusty, as if it hadn't been used for years. I blew off the dust off a section of books, reading the titles. I took out one book, reading through it. It was the basics of magic and controlling, things Maya and I learned when we were younger. It talked about how each one worked, and what part of the body, mind, or soul each used. I put it back down, picking up another one, skimming through it, but quickly put it back down as it spoke about black magic. I walked around the book shelfs, looking for the exit. How big was this place?
"Maya, I'm lost" my voice echoed through the library
"I'm right behind you idiot" Maya probably rolled her eyes.
"Oh, right" I turned around to face her, slightly stumbling on my dress
I took a few steps closer to her, picking up a book about color magic. There were three kinds of magic, white, grey and black. White magic is the kind that Maya and I used, which doesn't harm anything, grey magic is white magic that turned into black magic, and black magic is evil magic. I read through it quickly, then turning around to put it back, something hitting the back of my head.
"Ow, what the hell?" I turned around, rubbing my head, glaring at a book.
"...Karma?" Maya questioned
"Hahaha. Yeah right" I glared at the book as I went to pick it up.
I inspected it, blowing off the dust that sat on it. It had no name, but was beautifully binded with a black leather covering. It had a red book mark that held onto a page and I opened it, giving out a small gasp. Maya looked at me shocked, but pulled the book out of my hands, her also gasping as she finished reading it. We looked at each other for a few seconds, and I walked over to look at the book with her. It was the slaves curse and how it worked. We spent the next couple minutes memorizing every word of how it worked, and how to dispell it. I took a breath, imprinting every word into my mind. This is what will save our family. I tucked my hair behind my ear, as something hit me.
"Maya" I stared into her face
"Yes?" She looked up from the book with a questioning look on her face
"We forgot the boys" She had a shocked look on her face, but she nodded and put the book back where it fell out, heading to the exit.
We left the library, walking out into a forest. I turned around, and saw a clearing in the distance, with Maya walking towards it. I quickly ran after her, as we walked over and under logs. We finally got to the end of the forest, and walked into an abandoned village, walking past broken down and burnt huts. I paused as I saw one, but Maya pulled me along past the hut. We carefully headed down a hill, so we wouldn't trip, and came to a well that looked vaguely familiar.
"Maya.. Is this mom's old village?" I turned to look at her.
She just nodded once, spinning around. I turned away from the well, in the direction that Maya turned and saw an old man. Okay, so maybe it wasn't an abandoned village.
"Ye girls looking for something?" His voice was like a creepy whisper, sending a shiver down my spine
"The dark lord's castle" Maya replied smoothly.
"It'll take ye twelve hours" The old man pointed to the top of a hill as Maya and I looked at the top.
"Thank you.." Maya's voice faded away as the old man had dissapeared.
We looked at each other with blank expressions for a second, and started walking towards the hill. The hill wasn't that steep, but it was long and there were many things we had to jump over. Maya wouldn't let me shift into anything, since I couldn't turn into something that could carry her as well as it wouldn't be fair. I took a breath as Maya stopped walking, taking a break on a large rock. I looked up at the sky and saw the sun setting. I took a glance at Maya as she nodded to me. We had to walk faster.
We reached the top completely out of breath, we had to run the last bit, since we were practically blind by that point. I put my hands on my knees, panting heavily. I'm never running like that again. It was running through trees, with random logs everywhere that were fallen down, blind. I heard Maya take a few steps in front of me as I looked up in shock. We saw them.
