Well, I am back from England, and have spent the last two days just chilling. Unfortunately, I'm kind of sick of people at the moment, so I'm probably not going to be very talkative nor very active. I was trapped around people all week, so I'm quite tired of them.
Anyways, the trip was pretty fun, if you ignore my grandmother continuously hitting people with her umbrella because she's careless, and the fact that I got smacked and pushed about so much by other careless people. Also hate planes at the moment; on the flight back, there was a middle-eastern man behind me who kicked my seat non-stop, and another middle-eastern man in front of me who had his seat all the way down the entire flight. I'm only mentioning their orientations only because that's their language - they did not speak English. No, that would've made things way too easy. Dx
But getting off of that. I learned a lot of things about England, from lore to actual known facts. Such as St. Paul's Cathedral was built by a man named Wren (as well as 50 or so other cathedrals/abbeys/churches in the country), and that a cathedral is called such because it has a seat specifically for the bishop.
Visited many places. St. Paul's was one, as mentioned above. There was Buckingham Palace, which was very grand inside and out (minus the fact that it was the most frustrating place I've ever had to get into). The Roman Baths were fun, as was the London Eye, the giant ferris wheel that's over the Thames River (actually pronounced T-eh-ms). The Tower of London was cool, and we also got to see the crowned jewels on exhibit there. What else...
The Jack the Ripper tour sucked hard-core. The buildings that these murders originally took place in were destroyed, either by the London Fire of 1866 (I believe), or the blitzkrieg of the second World War. Only one building remained, which at the time was a pub, but is now an Indian restaurant. So... yeah.
On the last day of our trip, we went to go see a musical called Billy Elliot, based on the movie, with music done by Elton John. It'll be going to Broadway in 2 months, so it was interesting to see it in its unperfected state. The dancing left something to be desired (which, unfortunately for it, takes the premise of this show), but the story was excellent. A lot of British humor (naturally), but thanks to my dad's fandom of Monte Python and letting me watch since I was little, I was able to understand most of it. Iunno if that's a good thing or not. xD
Somehow, I bought little, but ended up spending a lot. The fashions over there are just disgusting! Most of it is floral. Floral dresses, shirts, neckscarves (which was a huge staple over there for any outfit), everything! I thought I was going to barf if I saw another shirt with flowers on it...
Let's see... Oh! We also went to go see Stonehenge. I always thought it would be smaller, but it was still just as mystifying and interesting as it would've been bigger. The only drawback to that visit was the fact that it was raining heavily, so we didn't get to stay for very long.
There were a lot of little interesting things there as well. Instead of "take-out" for food, it's "take-away". There were many Middle Eastern people there, not that that was a problem, but it's very easy to find the rich females: they all wore black. Only reason I found this out was when my grandmother dragged us over to the Harrods area, a very ritzy business district, with brands such as Giorgi Armani, and Gucci. I mean, they were everywhere!
Almost forgot! We also went to the British Museum of Antiquities, which has the largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts outside of Egypt. I just about nerd-gasmed just walking in there. There were a lot of sarcophagi, as well as many statues of the pharaohs and deities. The mummies were in a different exhibit, which further my sudden dislike for people as the exhibit was jam-packed with pushy people, but was cool to see nonetheless. We also looked through the Assyrian exhibit, as well as the Greeks. I have many pictures of Athena now. xD
Maybe I'll add pictures soon. We'll see. I have to get the energy to do so. It might also have to be pushed back until I get my summer essay done for school. Yes, I've procrastinated once again! It's what I do best. xD
Well, till later.
