*sigh* if u had to compare Iowa to all of the other states on a scale of worst year to best year, we would be the #1 worst state yet. why? well ill start when it all began. the year wuz going so fine until we reached winter. first we just got a lot of snow as always, but as we neared the middle of winter, the roads turned into pure ice, gasoline wuz freezing, power wuz going out (the worst power outage recorded in Iowa), i got to 52 degrees below freezing, people were going homeless, the homeless shelters were getting full so people had to sit outside and alot of them died from the cold, the snow piled up so high that we could barely get out of the house, and the worst of all, it would not stop snowing. ive gotten through winter, now spring. well spring wuz not very great either. first of all, there wuz no rain. second of all, racoons and possums were breeded and eating all of our chickens and even some of our cats. now the months of May and June. the worst ones of all. sure only two bad things r happening (still) but they r BAD! ill start with the minor stuff. tornadoes. highest recorded number of tornadoes since 1983. over 50 in only 1 1/2 months. over 5 of those tornadoes were recorded as F5 tornadoes, the strongest ones of all. and thats still the minor stuff. now for the major. flooding. never has the state of Iowa had flooding as bad as this. it has been raining nonstop for almost 3 weeks strait. this is the utmost worst flooding Iowa has ever had ever since Iowa became a state. our most popular city is COMPLETELY covered in water. signs are covered, houses r completely underwater, the library is flooded (i worry about the books), the science station is flooded and over 3 cities had to evacuate their homes so far. it hasn't been raining for 3 days now so at least some of the water is going down. the roads r flooded so now we hav to take a different route to church and my friends houses. when it usually took us 10-15 min to get to church, it now takes us over 30 min. when it usually took us 5 min to get to my friend's house, it now takes us about 15-20 min. so that means more gas. and since all of the flooding is occuring, the government needs more money for the repairs so they r raising the gas prices. they r now up to $4 for a gallon of gas. they might even raise it to $5! and since most houses r flooded, my friends who live in Cedar Rapids had to evacuate which means they cant come to my b-day prty this weekend which means i might hav to postpone my prty. the only things im thankful for is:
1] im sure that all of my friends r safe and evacuated.
2] that the water is going down and
3] that my family lives on a hill surrounded by trees so water and tornadoes have not reached us yet in all of the 6 yrs ive lived here (and hopefully not soon)
*sigh* yeppers. the worst year and state of all.
