Ahh, my week has been very strange. lD
Monday I bought four pairs of shoes, mainly because I'm a size 11 and finding good shoes in that size is hard to come by. Tuesday I stayed home due to a monthly 'problem'. And Wednesday, as well as today, has been a complete bombardment of testing, testing, testing!
But anyway. That is not why I am here right now. :3
I am actually here to say... what the hell?
Yes, this is another Wii update. I read a strange article, regarding the Virginia Tech massacre, and a speaker going out there.
Apparently, the man who supplied the shooter with the Walther .22 Cho used is going out to the campus.
Alright, yes, it sounds all nice and good. Maybe he's going to give his voice in condolence to all of the poor families, the shooter's included, who had to go through such a horrible experience such as having their friend or child killed/hurt.
But, no. He is going to be advocating the students' very right to possess a weapon on campus.
First off. This is not the 19th century. There is not much to protect here. In fact, I've heard many stories of people owning guns for protection and accidentally shoot a loved one entering the house because they were too paranoid. Or, the instance of having their child finding it and shooting them-self or a friend because they don't think it's loaded, and "Hey, looky me, Billy! Let's play cops and robbers!"
You can see where that scenario's going. And as for the first one, I've also read of the person who shot the intruder get sued because of it! No, never mind the fact that it was his own house, and sure, maybe it was in self defense. But nowadays, it just doesn't seem worth it to fire off that bullet because there's a complete stranger hovering over your child. (alright, I think the last part of that would be justifiable, but you get it)
Secondly. That is a baaaaad venue to be dealing this kind of hand at. Considering that the massacre's one year mark has only been a week behind us.
He is going to get bitched out like mad. And who can blame the parents, really?
Thirdly. On campus? Please. It's things like that that are going to cause mass paranoia, not to mention the school does not have full psychiatry backgrounds on every single student. Maybe part of that new law could be to have periodic checks and a background check. But so far, I haven't seen much in either of those categories happen when it comes to buying a gun. At all.
Besides. College campuses (or lower school campuses, included) should be a safe haven for the people attending. They shouldn't have to worry about someone just busting a piston in their head, and say "Oh look! I conveniently have a gun!" (a little dramatic, yes, but I do have friends who would do something that drastic, if they gave in to their temper).
But yes. Sorry for this long rant-ish thing. I may be semi-liberal, but recently, I've just felt that the 'right to bear arms' is taken too far and in the wrong situations. Keeping one just doesn't do one any good in the long run.
'Sides, who in their right mind carries a loaded pistol in their jacket while running to the grocery store, or just around the town? We don't live in the colonial days anymore. That right has over-stayed its welcome, or so I believe.
Iunno. To whoever's reading this, feel free to leave what you think. I like hearing oppositions. Though don't let that stop you, for the people who agree.
