Gaian Name: blackghost7
Name: Ariadne Schayxon
Age: 753…roughly her late twenties in appearance.
Gender: Female
Race: Shadow demon
Sexuality: Ari’s a bisexual. She is not too concerned with love; so it is more so about whoever can rock her world, be it a man or a woman.
Appearance: Ariadne is of average height and weight with bronze skin. She is strong, but being a woman she is not muscular; leaving her with a slender yet curvaceous body. Ariadne's hair is long, often causing annoying strands to fall in front of her strange eyes (which she hides behind sunglasses whether it be day or night). Her full bangs are at a medium length, stopping just before her eyes but completely covering her eyebrows. Meanwhile, the rest of her jet black hair falls down her back, stopping three inches just below the bottom of her shoulder blades. Brushed daily to give it its straight, neat look; she also has dark blue highlights to keep her hair from becoming dull. Her clothing compliments her feminine features for it is very tight. Her formfitting top is a long sleeved, black turtle neck half shirt that reveals ample stomach and shows how busty she really is. Her low rise, tight black jeans reveal even more of her middle section, exposing the tribal tattoo that is located on her lower back. While her jeans are full length, they aren’t fully seen due to her knee high, black combat boots; their many buckles securing the boot tightly around her leg and foot, maximizing grip, enabling for faster running. Also, Ariadne is a fan of rings, wearing two silver rings on each hand; one for both her index and middle fingers, and a black ring on her right pinky.
Personality: Ariadne is barely seen during the day, but when she is, she takes the form of a kind young woman. This however, is solely to reduce the amount of violent encounters because she is blind by day. By night though, she is a totally different person. Arrogance would sum Ariadne up pretty well. She thinks very highly of herself, and won’t hesitate to defend that belief. The cunning demon is also a crafty one, and definitely one to watch out for. Immortal, Ariadne is known to act her true age at times; displaying wisdom that only one who has lived for centuries can. Contradicting this, she also reverts back to the mindset of a young adult, behaving like the average teenager, curious, defiant, and oblivious to all but herself. Her younger persona is often responsible for landing her in a great deal trouble.
Past: Ariadne had a normal youth; she had two parents like most, and was the eldest of three. The only real reason why the young 143 year old demon left her prosperous hometown was out of boredom. Yet growing up in such a place can make one naïve. She had to learn a few tough lessons quick, and ran in to quite a few problems along the way. For example, never before had she been looked down upon for being a woman. But after all was said and done, she figured things out. Not to mention it made for an exciting youth.
However, such sexist views faded with the times; and with the passing years, so did her way of life. She had been born into the sword age, but little by little its importance dwindled, making way for more advanced technologies. With the invention of gunpowder, bows become obsolete and blades would become dust collectors in storage rooms. Practically born with a sword in her hand, she did not welcome the change with open arms. In compromise, she ended up dropping her blade but continued her studies in martial arts. Over the years, she slowly became what some would call a kenpo master; defeating many with her odd style (Aikido, Jujutsu, and Shorin-Ryu mix) which she sometimes integrated with a small bladed weapon. Despite her training, her life had progressed rather blandly. With more advanced technology than in the 13th century from which she hailed from, life had become dull since everything could be done with the push of a button instead of actual physical labor. Like the average person, she too had a daily routine, and she carried it out every day for centuries. True, she had enlisted in many wars, but it wasn’t until around twenty years ago that something actually interesting happened to her personally.
Somehow she had managed to acquire prototype weapons. The had arrived at her apartment in a neat package without a return address. Curiosity getting the better of her, she opened the package and the trouble started from there. Every since then, she had actually been able to put all her training to work for it would seem many wanted the weapon as well. Men and women alike would confront her; first asking for the “item”, but when she would refuse, things quickly became violent. After countless people had failed in the weapons retrieval, they finally stopped coming. Despite the occasional threat by mail, email or phone, she had remained relatively untouched. It was around this time that she started receiving more packages from what she believed to be the original sender of the weapons. Ammo would be sent twice a month, as well as both useful and useless items. She never knew why the person had chosen to be her odd-benefactor, but she by no means complained.
Despite the chaos the ion pistols had brought her, her life after things died down return to its normal routine. However, the time of troubles was definitely interesting, resulting in a rather deviant Ari that broke free of her monotonous life and became magnet for trouble. She has yet to get caught, but has since, definitely been running on the wrong side of the law.
Powers/Elements/Weapons: Powers/Elements--Commands the elements darkness and fire, and practices necromancy. Weapons--She uses kunai for hand to hand, but what she is known for are her twin, liquid-metal ion pistols. The pistols themselves are black with silver barrels, and the liquid metal cartridges are silver with blue ion cells surrounding the cartridges. On top of each gun is an explosive shot for secondary fire. The shot itself is a blue crystal projectile that explodes on contact. This however, is limited. It is for medium range shots only, no shorter or farther; either risking harm, or missing the shot altogether. Also, this must be reloaded after every shot; often over heating, it limits as to how often this shot can be used in succession as well.
Abilities: Being a darkness master, Ariadne has the ability to control the element darkness, and the shadows around her. While this is rarely used as an actual attack, it is still quite effective as defense and evasive magic. She is known to use this "power" to quickly vanish and evade brutal hits or even to hide in a nearby shadow to avoid fighting altogether. This power as akin to short range teleportation and can be used to move from one shadow to the next; effectively performing the skill known as “shadow hopping”. While this may drain little energy, it is not something readily used in the midst of battle due to the amount of concentration it requires. Also, the element can be used to create Shades, or copies of herself. In doing so, she too is covered in the black fog-like shadows, making it nearly impossible to tell her from the imposters. This is often used as a scare tactic, considering that they are nothing more than a bluff since they cannot attack and will disappear when touched. A shadow demon, through the use of trans-dimensional travel, she is granted access to the Plane of Shadows. This is an ability that only allows travel through the two planes and nothing more. It requires a great deal of energy to use, thusly, it is one accessed when not in battle. The plane is accessible by all shadow demons and is used as a common place for meeting. Living up to its name, the plane is void of light and thus acts as a healing agent to the residing demons. It is possible to feed off of the energy of the plane for healing. In conjunction with this, the energy of the plane is used to summon portals back to the normal realm of living, allowing the caster to return without draining any of their own energy. Travel to this plane can be reached by other species and races, but is something done when only under the protection of a shadow demon. If not endowed with a extremely high level ward or an astronomical psionist class spell of protection, the being is seen as an intruder and is drained of their life force until death.
Ariadne is also an apprentice in two other forms of magic: fire and necromancy. Fire is more of an everyday thing that she uses for warmth; but can be used as an attack as well. When it comes to fire, it is summoned as either massive infernos for shields, or small portions such as fire balls for firing at the enemy. This element can be used to melt down things to produce a magma like substance; which is easier to control but harder to create than normal flames. Through this form of magic, she has the ability to bend pre-existing flames to her will. This however, comes with a catch. The flame must have been produced by natural means. It has been formed magically by another however…then it is owned by them and cannot be tampered with for her skill has yet to progress that far. Sadly, this means she can be harmed by such flames. The same goes for natural fires; unless she can control them, she can be harmed by them. As far as her necromancy, it is often mistaken as white magic since she uses it to heal herself, but in actuality the health comes from an unfortunate victim. If it is used to heal another the same is true, but in dire situations she has been known to take the energy from herself and give it to others. She hardly ever uses necromancy in a positive light though; after all it is often referred to as the dark arts. That being the case, when using it she often uses curses and traps, draining the life of others, and summoning the dead. Summoning the dead however is a taxing thing, and if the being drains too much of her energy during the summoning, she can easily loose her power over it making it a free willed fiend instead of mindlessly obedient slave. Curses and traps, just like summonings, require a constant from of energy from the caster. Having not progressed past this debilitating stage, the effects of her necromantic spells will only last as long as she has the required energy to uphold the spell. In this light, such spells can easily be broken by shattering her concentration. Ariadne has even tried her hand at combining the different arts together in an attempt to create new forms of magic. However, having yet to completely master the two or the combining techniques, she rarely uses them in battle due to their large energy drain and pointless diversion of her concentration. So instead, they are practiced in private and not put to actual use.
Advantages/Strengths/: Demons are known for the strength, and she is no different. During the night, she is a forced to be reckoned with since she is a shadow demon since her power is boosted. Also, her night vision is darn near unrivaled.
Disadvantages/fears: Her biggest weakness would have to be light of any kind. With such sensitive eyes, she is rendered completely blind during the day. Due to the amount of light during the day, her strength and shadow powers are limited. When she is not blinded by light, her vision is still somewhat limited due to the scaring of the left half of her face, somewhat diminishing sight in that eye. Ariadne’s second weakness is one that she chooses not to reveal; her weakness to fire. While she cannot be wounded by her own flame, she can by any other since she is not a being of fire. Also, when Ari takes on her younger persona, she has a habit of not thinking things through, landing herself in many grave situations.
Font Color: Cornflower blue
Roleplay Sample: It was a perfect night to be outside. The sky was bare but for a few lone clouds that occasionally drifted past the great Luna and her children, the stars. The heaven’s glow was bright, causing great shadows to appear all across Comanth. Occasional gusts also accompanied the fine night, stirring the leaves on and below the trees; the subtle movements of plants and other greenery making them seem almost alive. However, when a cloud would mask Luna’s heavenly light, the land would be cast in momentary darkness; the lanterns of the city streets having trouble cutting through the pitch black. This perfect mixture of light and dark was what truly made it great. The light provided a better view of the beautiful night, and the darkness comforting.
Ariadne inhaled deeply, taking in the refreshing scent of the perfect night. She stood with her feet together, and her hands held out at her sides almost as if she were trying to grab a hold of the soft breeze passing through her spread fingers. While she could not take a hold of the wind, it could her for it had been playing at her hair; the silvery white locks that normally rested neatly over her shoulders and down her back had been lifted and blown about. With her eyes closed, Ariadne thought of nothing in particular, and simply let her mind wander. She would have stayed like that for forever hadn’t she been snapped back to reality by someone calling out to her.
“Will you return tonight?” The elderly male Fae that had been standing in the doorway several feet behind her inquired. Ariadne shifted on her feet and then turned around to face the rather short man, her golden cuffs catching the light and shining brightly in the process. “I don not know,” was her response. The corners of his mouth turned down, creating even more wrinkles on his aged face. Considering his change in expression, Ariadne did her best to sooth things over, “If I do not stay another night, I will at least stop by to say farewell. In good conscience, I cannot just leave with out saying goodbye to someone who has been ever so kind.” The elderly Fae smiled, it didn’t lessen the wrinkles but it lit up his face, making for a more cheerful appearance. Ariadne, seeing how her words had been affective, smiled as well. “Until then, good friend,” Ariadne bowed low in respect and then took her leave.
“Good friend”, the words echoed in her mind whilst she walked along the empty streets of Comanth. They were words that she would have never used in the same sentence, especially when referring to one she barely knew, but that was in the past. Finding it a hindrance, Ariadne had long since grown out of most of her drowkan personality. True, she may still have an arrogant and conceited side; but she had learned to be kind and considerate as well, a trait not often found amongst her people. A part of her upbringing though, her “drowkan personality” isn’t gone either, and can resurface at any moment. It is because of this that she is slow to anger, but still is a callous being when enraged. Ariadne shivered at such thoughts, for some of the things that she had done while angered were things that she wished she had never done. Killing the one that made her who she was, was one of the biggest mistakes that she could think of. She had plenty of time to think about such actions, and in the end came to the conclusion that the murder should have never been committed. However, in the back of her mind, she wondered if she truly killed him. She always wondered if he managed to survive through it all; it is after all a very likely possibility. Yet, when given time to think further on the matter, such thoughts are usually categorized as ways to console her guilt. Pitiful attempts at trying to make it seem like she never ended his life to begin with; rather, she simply fatally wounded him.
Once again, Ariadne stopped. Her mind had been running wild for far too long, allowing her to think too deeply on matters that she really wished she could forget. With a sigh, she tossed her head back and stared up into the night’s sky once more. “Luna, shine down upon me and cleanse me of my filth,” she spoke softly to the full moon at which she stared. It would seem that even nature can be cruel though, for upon asking for forgiveness, a cloud covered the moon leaving Ariadne in darkness. Closing her eyes, Ariadne spoke to Luna once more, “I see. Even you cannot forgive such horrid crimes.” Ariadne gave a slight chuckle and thought to herself, ‘It would seem that tonight is a night of self reflection.’
Other: Appearance continued-- A shadow demon, Ariadne's natural form has no hard lines and she is utterly featureless for her kind appear as shadow figures or black clouds that are simply humanoid in form. In this natural form their features are barely readable for there is no distinction between the fingers or toes, making their appendages seem like large solid masses. Also, since they appear to be bald in this form, the only feature that defines gender would be the breasts of women.
Also, about her strange eyes-- When underground, or in complete darkness, her eyes appear as solid black orbs that seem to have no cornea. This is true to an extent, for all that is showing is her pupils, but when it shrinks due to light exposure it becomes apparent that her corneas too are black. It is at times like this when there is ever any eye color to such creatures for their irises do come in varying hues and Ariadne's in particular are a bright yellow.
As always, this pic is a work in progress. So check this on occasion...you never know when I may work on the pic and it may be updated from time to time.
