so the holidays are (finally) over and things are settling back in to the normal routine. lemme tell ya, retail is not an easy kettle of fish sometimes. anyway it's been unusually slow lately because of the weather...we were under a winter weather advisory yesterday, which they removed about half way through because actually it was just cold. no precipitation at all. apparently out west they haven't gotten much either but don't everyone start in on that global warming crap because texas has had ice storms to knock out power (i know this because our temerature in the building in which i work is controlled from there...don't ask) and oh fruit prices will be going up again soon because florida got the smackdown from the weather gods and frosts killed a large quantity of the crops. so if you want some of those great florida citruses, get em now because you probably won't be able to afford them next week. anyway everyone i work with practically has quit, either because they didn't want to work the holidays or because they were starting school this semester with a full class load. neither of whom i blame. it takes a very strong person to go to school and keep a job, and some people just aren't up to it. it's mentally and physically straining. i work with one guy taking 18 hours and still working 40 hours a week. somewhere in this he finds the time to party. i don't think he sleeps. like ever. and then another girl i work with is only going to school part time and working only 10-16 hours on the weekends and yet flies off the handle and then appologizes by saying school and work are stressful and then takes every other weekend off. she obviously lives at home. oh and people have not gotten smarter. just a little less frequent. they're all still as dumb as a box of rocks. and that's insulting the rocks. i always hold out hope that after the christmas feeding frenzy is over people will mellow out and gain back some of their sense, but every year i am yet again disappointed. one real ringer was the crazy woman who ran out of the store with a toilet seat, setting off the alarms. well one of the semi-managers saw her go and followed her out into the parking lot. she walked up to the woman and asked her if she had a receipt. the woman scowled at her for a moment and said that "he" had told her the alarm would go off. now unless some god came down in a holy vision and explained to her through a burning pile of toilet paper (as the garden center is closed and there are no bushes) that she was going to set the alarm off she was lying, because there were no male cashiers in the store. well the semi-manager asked again if she had a receipt and she said "well...i have a doctor's appointment so i don't have time for this," slammed her door and sped out of the parking lot doing at least 40. we didn't even have time to get her tag number. later we found a whole buggy of stuff and a stack of bags that she probably left behind. she was going to try to bag up a bunch of stuff and carry it through the door. anyway hopefully she'll never come back. go to walmart. they delight in bagging people like you. anyway, that's it for me, kiddies. probably be on sometime tonight. ^_^
