There are muffled sounds and flickering images. None clear enough to understand. A baby crying, no, wait, a wandering four-legged animal. Wait, now shadows mumbling. Now the screams of a woman in agony. Another change, what looks like a child morphing wildly, unsure of it's own existence. The images now ending in a blurr of confusion.
A man jolts up from his sleep, gasping for air. Calm now, he begins looking around the room. "It's morning already," he states as he strecthes his arms and legs outward. He turns his head, startled as the door creaks open. A woman is leaning up against the frame smiling, "it's about time you woke up Jiro, it's one- thirteen in the afternoon." Jiro looks her directly in the eyes surprised, "one- thirteen! Why didn't you wake me up Annette?!"
"I was at the mall. By the way, why are you sweating? Was it that dream again?" "Yeah," he looks down, confused, "and I still don't know what it means." "Don't dwell on a dream." "I cant help it, it haunts me-" "I know." "This is the third night in a row-" "I know." "I just want it to stop-" "Then don't dwell on it." "I'll try no-," as he stops in mid-sentence, noticing that his nails had just grown a centimeter and quickly returned to normal. "Is something wrong Jiro?" Hesitating, "n-no, just seeing things." "Alright then, youre lucky it's a Saturday. Now let's go off campus and get something to eat." "Okay," he agrees while throwing clothes over his half-naked body.
They walk out the door, closing it gently. "So, where to?" asks Annette. "Oh, let's try the new Pancake House down the street," suggests Jiro. They both agree as they jump into Jiro's 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse. He turns the key and the car starts as sparks light gasoline vapor in the cylinders of the engine. As he is driving down the road, one hand on the steering wheel, the other holding Annette's. This Could Be Anywhere In The World by Alexisonfire is playing on the radio. Suddenly thing seems to slow down. The music from the radio has grown incredibly slow and low toned, yet the vehicle is still moving at fourty miles per hour. Both Jiro and Annette seem to be uneffected by this anomoly.
Jiro lets off of the gas pedal and the car slows down. Meanwhile, Annette is sitting next to him, still holding his hand. "Oh no!" she whispers to herself loudly, seemingly worried. Jiro hears this, yet showing no aknowledgement to this fact. Things seem to be returning to normal as the song returns to its original pace, and the traffic too, doing the same. Jiro turns to Annette for a moment, "what in the hell!? That was definitly not normal!"
"No, most definitly not," says Annette, lost in thought. "B-but, just don't dwell on it," she studders, hiding a slight panic.
"Alright, I won't," he replies, yet he is still think deeply about this event. Letting go of her hand, he begins to bite his thumb with his canines, the pad facing upward and the nail facing downward. While biting lightly, suddenly he feels a very sharp p***k, then the taste of blood fills his mouth. Jiro then pulls his thumb quickly out of his mouth noticing that it's covered in blood with a hole in the pad. He puts his thumb back into his mouth, sucking away the blood as it drips out of the hole. Annette, seeing this, grows more worried by the minute, it now shows in her facial expression.
Finally, they arive at the Pancake House. As they enter through the old fashioned doors, the couple is greeted by a waitress who ushers them to a round wooden table with two wooden chairs. Jiro, acting as a gentleman, helps Annette to her seat. He then walks back over to his seat, moving to seat him self. As he begins to sit down, he feels something painfully catch the back of the wooden chair. Jiro quickly jolts upward, reaching back and feeling a nub of a tail retreating into the bottom of his spine. "That hurt. I'm not exactly sure what it was, but it hurt," he says to Annette, as if ot be questioning whether it really happened. He looks over toward Annette, her eyes slightly widened, continuing to worry more.
The waitress now returns, "what would you like to drink maam'?" "I'll have a coffee." "Okay, and a coffee for you too sir?" "No thank you, but could I get a tall get a tall glass of milk?" "Okay, so it's coffee and milk," the waitress says to herself as she walks off to prepare the drinks. "Why milk?" asks Annette, curiously worried. "I don't know, I just suddenly have the urge to drink milk," Jiro replies. "But I'm going to the mens room to find out what just happened to me," he says as he walks off toward the restroom. "Oh no, I cant control him any more! His power has overcame my restraints!" she says to herself after he has entered the restroom.
