Running through the forest, trees flying by, my long time friend Ian pants hard. “Come on Ian you can’t be tired already!” I huff between breaths.
“No not really, just a little scared.” He whimpered. We run together all the time… It’s our way to get away from the pack and Ian’s father for a while.
“Why in the world should you be scared, you afraid of that old man of yours?” I chuckled weaving through trees. “Cody, c’mon you know he’s going to tear me apart its his job.” he huffed almost completely out of breath. His father is the pack leader, his mother is human, and still finding it hard to believe that Ian and I are both wolves. Just then I smell the strong scent of the pack leader, it’s so strong even the smell of the under growth is washed away. “Ian! It’s your father!” I yowled at him. “Yeah, I picked it up too. Let’s pick up the pace!” He hurled himself through he trees and I quickly followed. The scent of his father became fainter and fainter. “I believe we lost him…” I huffed falling to the ground. “Yeah, he’s at least 48 miles back. Let’s at least run up this ridge” He edged as I got up. “Okay…Race you!” I yowled running up the ridge as fast as my paws could carry me, it was thrilling running up the ridge so fast. Nothing but a clear night sky, a full pure white moon, I couldn’t resist the urge to howl, It feels just like your singing…I do this a lot, just then I scented Ian’s father, I started to run but I had no where to go. “Young lady what do you think you are doing, Cordelia?” He growled. “Sneaking away from the pack, Not even thinking about what you were doing. You could get the pack discovered for doing this, we could be hunted like common animals! You are to go to your home and tell your mother what you have been doing you cannot phase for two human months .” He turned to his son growling “and you…you must not phase either, come with me we are going home to talk to your mother about your freedom” He snapped. “ Cody, go home…now!” He spat as I stalked off. At home it was no better, my mother was harsher than even the pack leader was and she doesn’t even know I’m a wolf only my father knew… but he got killed by a different packs leader. “Honey, you need to slow down! You and Ian are going to go wild one day.” She snickered at herself although she had no idea how correct she was. Our house is on a hill close to my packs territory so I went outside to stare at the moon, the stars shine “Amazing…” I whisper to my self thinking about my sister out with the pack, Jody probably talking about how unruly I am and wishing I was there. I walk into the house “Mom, I’m going for a walk in the forest.” Before she can answer I’m out the door and into the forest. I feel safer under the canopy of green, but suddenly there is a soft cushion of black enclosing my eyes, then immense pain...The black gets thicker until I can’t see any more. I hear a blood curdling yowl and ripping fur before Ian rushes to my side. “Cody? Cody! Jody! You got to get over here!” I can’t hear her she must be in human phase “Yeah Ian what did you ne- wow, you brought me over here to show me some fresh kill?” she scoffed, I guess I must be covered in so much blood… “Jody, no turn her over” he whimpered “Turn her over…okay then.” I couldn’t feel my legs and I was getting cold but her warm hand on my shoulder reminds me of how warm wolves are…I’m going to die… She turned me over and the last thing I heard was a scream so loud that it made my ears ring. That’s really the last thing I remember, besides darkness…I wake up several hours later, in a strange place… “Hey Cody, I can explain every thing…” I can’t talk I can’t even move! “ Cordelia? Can you hear me ? Hey Jody I can’t take seeing her like this…just tell her what happened…” and Ian got up and started to walk to the door. I’m here! He walked out of the room and my sister Jody walked in slowly her face apologetic. “Honey, why won’t you talk to Ian.” Because I can’t!
