I lay on my bed, overwhelmed with loneliness. Suppressing tears, I clenched in my right hand the necklace Seth gave me what seems like so long ago. "I need you," I whispered, my voice shaking. "Please... please come back to me..."
I took a deep breath and steady my voice. Louder, I began to speak, sounding as confident as I can. "I want you told hold me in your arms once more, to tell me that you love me, to never... never..." I paused, gathering my strength. "...never let go!"
Energy pulsed through my body, in my veins, everywhere. "Come... back... to... me...!!!" I shouted.
I was standing next to my bed then, an invisible force holding me upright. And then, as quickly as it came, the power stopped abruptly. I fell to the ground, exhausted. The last thing I thought before passing out was, If this doesn't work, I don't know what I'll do...
-----------------------------------------------
I want to die... I think. Please let me die... I stumble across the room, searching for a knife, a pencil, anything.
"No..." I tell myself. "Remember your promise. Remember. You promised him you wouldn't do anything!" I cry out in emotional pain. "Phone... I have to get to a phone..."
I find my cell phone and dial Seth's number. "Answer... come on, Seth, answer your goddamn phone!" I practically shout into the reciever. After four rings, he picks up.
"Hey, what's up?" he says.
"Seth..." I mumble. "Seth..."
"Ebony?! Ebony, what's wrong?!"
"I... come over... here... Seth... I need..." I can't even form a full sentence.
"I'll be right over, Ebony! Stay right where you are, don't do anything! I'll be right there, okay?"
"O... okay..."
"I'll be there in one minute! Bye, Ebony! Be right there!"
The phone goes dead. I sit on my bed, unable to move, waiting for Seth. I am shaking uncontrollably.
Soon, I hear the front door open. Footsteps race up the stairs and down the hallway. Seth rushes into my room. "EBONY!"
He runs over to me and sits down next to me. Putting his arms around me, he quickly locks me in an inescapable hug. He is breathing heavily, his chest heaving with every breath.
"Ebony... you're okay... what's wrong, Ebony?!"
I cannot speak. He looks at me questioningly, worried. I finally manage to point a shaking hand at my dresser. On top is a knife. That is enough explanation for him.
"Oh, Ebony! I'm so glad you called me!" he exclaims. We are both crying now. "Oh, Ebony... Ebony, Ebony, Ebony..."
-----------------------------------------------
I woke up momentarily, crying. Memories in my dreams came back to me vividly, as if I was there, living it all over again. Lightheaded once again, I just barely thought, If only I could have saved him...
