As the sun descends and falls into twilight...
And the moon shine forth in its glory bright...
Villians of the darkest depths will spawn...
And the sliver of hope will dawn.

The purpose of the Lunar Arts is simple; to defend those who are in need of help. As the moon shines as the brightest light in the night sky, so does the wielder of the art act for those in need. Although the desire to always improve is of high emphasis in this art as well, first and foremost is the need to be attentive to others. Strength is useless if not to used help others and can lead to harm others and ultimately, the wielder itself.

Because of this, the Lunar Arts focuses on technique and inner energy, allowing the wielder to use their own strength in a sense of truth while drawing additional energy from the moon's light. Although this art can be used readily, it is at its strongest in moonlight, especially in full moonlight. Because the body is needed to be able to take in the energy, first the student learns the initial techniques, which are mostly from the art of the Lunar Aura, in order to have capable techniques to wield in order to examine themselves. Then the body is trained directly as a means of adjustment to the energy. Third, the true essence is seen with the training of techniques that combines the training of both body and technique. With these techniques and skills, the student is then sent away for a time in order to learn about themselves and develop into their new abilities. When the time is right, they will be called in for the Trial of Night and Light, where they must face a master of the Lunar Art in combat in order to determine if they have reached a level of true mastery.

The circular goal is for the wielder to create a technique of their own, in order to further the art and expand it in the coming times, just as the the moon changes its phases. This also serves as a way to enrich it and allow for other arts of similar class to at least be capable of utilizing a few techniques. In this way, the Lunar Arts can be fluid in any sword art, so long as the practitioner is at the right level for it.
As a katsujin-ken art (the sword that gives life), the practitioner is to show respect to any they meet, friend and foe alike. Even on the battlefield, that respect must remain, regardless of whether or not the opponent is either weaker or stronger than you, for every battle serves to make both participants stronger. Life is held in the highest regard and even though the sword is a weapon to kill, a true master of the Lunar Art knows how to fight without fatality. That is not to say that a time will not come when slaying an opponent will not arrive, but if it can be helped, death will be avoided at all times. The night serves as an example of this as the night (death) is only cast away by the light (life) of the moon.

The moon exists in the night sky to show those in darkness the way. It is the symbol for hope in the Lunar Arts and all who practice it strive to reflect that hope to others.
