I think the company/network/executives behind Supernatural didn’t want to spend the extra money. Covid-19 makes filming expensive because they’re already paying for additional equipment for cleaning the sets, washing hands, checking temperatures and Covid tests. The expense grows when they have more people to account for while also making sure everyone is following the restrictions. They most likely cut down the crew and cast just to make it cheaper.
It’s very noticeable with the wig and the old-age makeup done on Sam which looked so terrible and cheap.
I also looked up the actress who played Eileen Leahy on IMDb and she’s still working on TV shows and is currently working on a new film called The Magnificent Meyersons. Covid certainly hasn’t stopped her from continuing, but for some reason they didn’t write her character into the finale.
Because if Sam was gonna married someone, Eileen would have made better sense than some random woman. After all, when people started vanishing Sam immediately thought of Eileen and rushed over to her. He was devastated when he realized she was gone. Jared’s acting was so on point. We saw his heart breaking, while doing his best to hold it together because there wasn’t any time for him to lose it.
And yet, when we learn that Jack bought everyone back she never showed up again. She wasn’t even mention at all. That’s bad because the Sam we know would’ve wanted to see for himself that she was okay. So why did they focus on him and Dean doing everyday, mundane tasks around the bunker? Why not include her in it? It would show her becoming a part of the family. She also wouldn’t have left Sam alone once she heard that Dean was gone.
Ugh, they could’ve done better. I know Covid-19 limited them in what they could do, but that certainly didn’t stop other shows and films from giving it their all or finding workarounds to make it work.
