 Chapter 3
What about Shimo?



Rayu started down one street and another window-shopping and watching people
walk their separate ways. He decided to stop at one shop and see inside because the sign
was also in Hemlu. There weren’t any people inside save a young girl who was
sweeping. She was short and had blue hair, blue eyes and matching blue, crescent shapes
on her cheeks and only looked six or seven.
“Hello,”she said delicately looking into his face with a pure look of young love,
“how may I help you?”
“Just window-shopping, thanks.” he said not noticing her looks of love.
Then came a crash from the back room with boxes falling into the main room
where Rayu and the young girl was. A girl fell into the room too and cursed out loud.
“Here let me help you,”Rayu said as he pulled the girl to her feet. “Are you
okay?”
“Yes,” she said angrily. She had dirty-blond hair and brown eyes with matching
green, crescent shapes on her cheeks-the same as the little girl.”Hey, I don’t know you
do I? She asked. Then Rayu told her he just got there. “Are you an apprentice? She
asked. “Yes,”he said.“To Shimo.”
“You are sooooooo kidding ,right?” yelled the older girl. “No, why,” Rayu asked
fearing an answer. “She is, like the best thief ever!!!! She is so good that once the Lord of
Thieves wanted her to be his successor!!!”
Was this true? Thought Rayu totally unsure of this new information.
“By the way I’m Emma and this is Laurine,”the girl told him pointing to the girl
with the broom.“We’re both apprenticed to Meja the witch.
“So that’s what the crescent shapes on your checks are! I remember hearing about
them! Only magical humans are born with them, right?” Rayu asked rembering what a
traveler once told him a long time ago.
“Thats right!" after a few seconds she shyfully asked, "um....I was wondering if you could introduce us to Shimo....she’s
really my idol!”Emma said blushing.
“Sure!”said Rayu, happy that he had made a new friend.
“Alright, come on Laurine. Meja won’t be to mad if we leave the shop for a while
to see someone.”Emma told Laurine while putting a we’ll be back in five minutes sign on
the door.
As they walked down the road Emma was gabbing about all she had heard about
Shimo.“And I heard that she took down a giant in The wild mountains of Charta, and a
Dragon in the caves in Dracones!!!! She is so cool!”she said finally breathing out in
excitement. As she kept gabbing on, Rayu felt someone touch his hand and looked down.
Laurine had taken his hand held it. He smiled and they walked on.
“This is it.”Rayu said as they stopped in front of the shop. For a minute he thought
that Emmas obsession would stop as soon as she saw the small place and that would be
that.
“Sh-she is so humble!!!!!” Emma yelled as soon as she saw the place. Oh god
thought Rayu as he lead them in the shop. “Hey! Shimo! I brought some new friends to
meet you.” yelled Rayu when he didn’t see her.”Where are you?”
“I’m back here guys- I’m watching the EmmerBall semifinalists.” They herd her
yell as they walked into the backroom.
“This is Emma and Laurine, Shimo. They’re Meja’s apprentices from down the
street.”said Rayu introducing them.
“Hi I’m Shimo.”she said sitting in front of a TV.“You guys wanna watch the game
for a while? I’ve got popcorn!”
“Great!”
“Yum!”
“....Thank you..”
As they watched the game and yelled when their favorite team got a point and a
goal Emma kept asking where Shimo has been and on what kind of adventures she has
been on. “And I also heard that you saw the King of Ferra-I heard he’s a very special
king. He killed the evil in his area completely! ”
“Yeah I have-I’m surprised you know that, I’ve never told anyone.”Shimo
answered her. “It’s a very special adventure I went on.”
Then Laurine pulled on Rayu’s sleeve and whispered into his ear, he listened and
said “Ummm ... Laurine thinks its time to go.”
“Oh, really?”said Emma in a depressed voice.“Well I’ll see you later Rayu,
Shimo. Bye.”
She and Laurine left waving saying they’d visit again.
“Well?” asked Shimo
“Well what?”said Rayu irritated and blushing.
“DO NOT, do not tell me you are that dence. That girl Laurine, has a huge crush
on you.” Shimo said laughing.

Rayu turned away speechless and walked into the shop. Shimo followed him
continuing,“so.... how do you like this place?”
He then thought of all the amazing things he had seen in the stores, gold and silver,
weapons and armor, animals of all sorts and the people! Elves and dwarves, hybrids and
humans, and the prizes won if you were a successful thief.
Rayu gained his voice back and blured,“I want to be a professional thief!”
“Well then,” Shimo replied happily,”we’ll have to get you initiated as a beginner
thief at the palace. Up there.” She pointed at the limestone building. “That is where the
Lord of Thieves lives.”
