Manga artist and Pop Surrealism superstar Camilla d’Errico presents her first ever adult coloring book, filled with portraits, patterns, and the stunning artwork her fans and collectors have come to love.
This one-of-a-kind book offers you the opportunity to collaborate with d’Errico, adding your colors to her gorgeous black and white linework. Featuring everything from haunting and surreal character portraits to pages filled with patterns and designs all rendered in d’Errico’s inimitable style, Pop Manga Coloring Book is guaranteed to provide hours of coloring fun and excitement.
I find this book to be an interesting mix of Manga and Pop Surrealism (also known as Lowbrow Art). Surrealism has always been my favorite artistic movement to learn about in Art history, so much that some of my earlier art took inspiration from it. So its not far fetch to believe that I got into pop surrealism when I learned about it as well. The manga style fits surprising well into pop surrealism, especially in the way Camilla d’Errico does it.
Her art is very pretty, detailed and obviously done in a surreal way. I enjoy coloring in the female characters, which are the main subject matter throughout the book. If you were expecting to only see patterns, animals and objects you’ll be disappointed.
When it comes to coloring in the art I love the fact that this book is printed on a smooth, thick paper that works well to adsorb ink, markers, color pencils, crayons and whatever else you want to use to color. So you don’t have to worry about any colors bleeding through to the other side of the page. Also, I love the fact that Camilla even mentions that there’s no rules to coloring in this book, that people can even photocopy some of the pages to color before coloring directly onto the book. I’m glad she mentions that since I’m sure there are some people out there that didn’t even consider that as an option.
[Note: I received this book from Blogging for Books in exchange for an honest review.]
