Elven runes 3 Ereda (air-ray-dah) is the royal Water rune representing the energies of the Orphan. When Ereda appears focus on the simple things in life to find the correct path. The single wave that symbolizes Ereda represents the strength and conviction required when traveling alone in life. The Orphan depends on few and never expects the help of others. Life has been, and is, a singular endeavor for the Orphan and, as such, little is needed, nor asked for, by the Orphan when a journey must be made, an obstacle overcome, or a confrontation accepted. The Orphan believes, above all else, that the powers and energies required to succeed are contained within and only need to be channeled correctly to overcome any obstacle. Unfettered with the nuisances of wealth and resources, the Orphan can accomplish much with very little and is ingenious by nature, able to perceive how simple items found on the path can wield great power when combined with cleverness. Like Water, and a single wave, it is difficult to hinder the momentum of an Orphan when a path has already been chosen and taken. The trappings of the Orphan are few, and a wealth of available resources can confuse and cloud the focus of the Orphan by making solutions appear more complex than they actually are. The answer will be best found by believing and relying on the Self, taking the simple road. To find the correct path, keep it simple. The appearance of Ereda can also mean that a person possessing the qualities of the Orphan has entered your life, or is about to, in direct association with the challenge or issue you face. If such a person appears, pay attention to the simplicity they bring (or have already brought) to the situation as they may be here to help you see the obvious, maintain your focus, or be hiding what needs to be seen. The appearance of Ereda can also be a powerful suggestion that you are currently in possession of the power of the Orphan, soon will be, or that embodying that energy is necessary to proceed effectively.
When Ereda (air-ray-dah) appears in reversal it indicates that focus has been lost. The challenge at hand is likely being perceived too complexly and simplifying the matter is essential for success to occur. Concentrate and put aside the items or beliefs of others that are interfering with taking action. The answer does not lie in the complexity of the situation, nor in the magic of others, or the items they possess. Everything necessary to proceed correctly is at hand, you need look no farther than yourself, or the things you possess. The power and energy you require is here, tap it, choose a course and take it. Finding the correct path is obvious and likely right in front of you…take it. The appearance of a reversed Ereda can also mean that a person possessing qualities contrary to those of the Orphan has entered your life, or is about to, in direct association with the challenge or issue you face. If such a person appears, pay attention to the complexity they bring (or have already brought) to the situation as they may be here to keep you from seeing the obvious, clouding your focus, or trying to distort what you see. The appearance of a reversed Ereda can also be a powerful suggestion that you are currently in great need of possessing the power of the Orphan, soon will, or that embodying that energy is necessary to proceed effectively. --- Dil (dee-el) is the royal Water rune representing the energies of the Lover. When Dil appears focus on the most cherished things in life to find the correct path. The ornate and balanced cup that symbolizes Dil represents the complex and synergistic nature of Love, as well as its fragility. The symbol of the Lover has also been associated with the head of the infant in the mother’s breast. Interpreted either way, the Lover is devoted to another and is incomplete without the Other. The Other has no symbol in the runic order but is a necessary component of a fully realized Lover. Much of the Lover’s power comes from the relationship with the Other and the strength the Other provides. Like two streams merging to flow as a river, or rivers flowing into a lake or the sea, the Lover is incomplete until joined with the sprit of the Other. Unlike the Orphan, the Lover cannot typically succeed alone, but needs the Other in order to overcome the obstacles and challenges of the journey. Understanding the complexity and emotion of the Lover is essential to addressing the challenge you face. The person or things in life that hold your passion also hold the keys to the power you need to successfully overcome what blocks the path, and devotion and an unwavering allegiance to that which is dear to you is an absolute requirement to finding the correct path. Often, the Lover appears when the things you most care about are central to the situation: values, belief systems, simple right and wrong. As one would not forsake the beloved, one cannot expect to forsake those things that are loved and expect a satisfying result. Hold true to that which you truly love because a loose grip will cost you both the love of the Other and the power the Other provides you. The dedicated, passionate, and heartfelt path is the correct one. The appearance of Dil can also mean that a person possessing the qualities of the Lover has entered your life, or is about to, in direct association with the challenge or issue you face. If such a person appears, pay attention to the passion they bring (or have already brought) to the situation as they may be here to help you rekindle a lost passion, refocus you on what is truly important, or be keeping you from the Other. The appearance of Dil can also be a powerful suggestion that you are currently in possession of the power of the Lover, soon will be, or that embodying that energy is necessary to proceed effectively.
When Dil (dee-el) appears in reversal it indicates that the synergies of the Lover and the Other are especially fragile. There is likely something, or someone, interfering with the balance of the Lover and the Other, potentially sapping the energy of the union. A rekindling of the passion, or a reaffirmation of love may be in order, or eyes cast away for too long may need to return to that which, though temporarily lost, is always found in Love. The light of true love always shines through and if that is no longer the case, cast off that which is hiding the light in the darkness. Rejoice again in the passion found in the Other and declare it as such. Search out the Other, embrace the Other, Love the Other, because the Other will help you to find the correct path. The appearance of a reversed Dil can also mean that a person possessing qualities contrary to those of the Other has entered your life, or is about to, in direct association with the challenge or issue you face. If such a person appears, pay attention to the passion they bring (or have already brought) to the situation as they may be here to reignite your passion, remind you of what you hold dear, or cast a shadow on the Other. The appearance of a reversed Dil can also be a powerful suggestion that you are currently in great need to possess the power of the Other, soon will be, or that embodying that energy is necessary to proceed effectively. You may not be the Lover, but the Other. --- Wealai (we-ah-lay) is the royal Water rune representing the energies of the Fool. When Wealai appears focus on the pleasurable things in life to find the correct path. The balanced, though unusual, image that symbolizes Wealai represents the beauty that can be found when convention does not dominate life – there are no straight lines, no clear paths, and the complex image is made from configuring one simple shape. The Fool represents the power of play, in action. Letting the heart lead, pleasure dominate, and fun rule, the Fool reminds us that life need not always be the serious endeavor we sometimes box ourselves into. Like Water, the Fool typically travels the path of least resistance, finding joy in the journey and drawing energy from the experience. Perhaps lazy, perhaps simply unwilling to worry about the little things, the Fool instead soaks life in and revels in the pleasure of the moment. Spontaneous, the Fool is quick to laugh, quick to forgive, difficult to anger and has an uncanny ability to find the good in any situation. Anxious to experience life, the Fool looks for opportunities to try new things, take a risk, and generally go with the flow. Life is too short, there is so much to be seen and enjoyed, and the Fool intends to see and feel all that is possible in the course of a lifetime. The correct path is the one with heart. The appearance of Wealai can also mean that a person possessing the qualities of the Fool has entered your life, or is about to, in direct association with the challenge or issue you face. If such a person appears, pay attention to the joy they bring (or have already brought) to the situation as they may be here to help you remember that all is not as serious as it sometimes seems, help you rediscover the playful side of your nature, or be distracting you with nonsense. The appearance of Wealai can also be a powerful suggestion that you are currently in possession of the power of the Fool, soon will be, or that embodying that energy is necessary to proceed effectively. --- Embrathka (em-brauth-kah) is the symbolic rune representing acceptance. There is nothing you can do to alter a recent situation because this part of the journey has been played out to its conclusion. Accepting the result of this particular path is now your task, and your ability to acknowledge the outcome is necessary in order to move forward. Whether a path has been completed with a positive or negative result, understanding that it is complete is the key to moving forward effectively. Once acceptance of a situation has been truly embraced, the energies that were being devoted to it can now be refocused on other issues of importance. Refocusing is critical since wasting time trying to change something that cannot be changed, dwelling on ‘what might have been’, or basking too long in the glory of a success, merely draws energy from you and tangles your emotions in ways that can keep you from moving forward on the journey. Accept where you are now, and begin preparing to select the next path.
Embrathka (em-brauth-kah) is the symbolic rune representing acceptance. There is nothing you can do to alter a recent situation because this part of the journey has been played out to its conclusion. When Embrathka appears in reverse it is important that you find the strength to accept the result because an important lesson awaits you. The recent result is less important than the lesson it teaches so you must try to discover the lesson and learn from it. If you allow your emotions to interfere with the lesson, you are likely to follow a similar path in the future because the lesson to be learned is essential to your life journey. Regardless of whether you have come to this point with great joy or in bitter despair because of the recent result, the lesson is one that will help you to attain similar joy or avoid despair in the future. Typically, success results from doing what is right and failure is the result of doing wrong, however, sometimes the opposite is true. Accepting how you have come to this point, at this time, is often the lesson you must learn. The correct path lies in front of you, the one behind you merely circles around to this same point. ---- Ramora (ruh-more-rah) is the symbolic rune representing storms. Strong and powerful emotions are impacting the situation and blocking it from resolution. The storm represents the unleashing of the emotional Self and indicates that the Self is under attack at a most fundamental level. Resolving the issue, and protecting the Self, may require focusing your emotional energies so that action can be taken, or releasing the energy in a manner that does not harm the Self. Either way, some level of control is necessary before the storm will pass. Riding out storms of emotion can be difficult, and often leave debris scattered in their wakes. Understanding that storms require a mix of unstable elements in order to manifest makes it possible to take action against a storm by identifying what is feeding it and refusing to supply it with the energy it requires to sustain itself. This power to refuse to cooperate with the needs of storms lie at the heart of surviving them, and serves to protect the Self. To find the correct path, control and protect the emotional Self.
Ramora (ruh-more-rah) is the symbolic rune representing storms. When Ramorra appears in reverse, a storm is brewing. The current situation is becoming unstable and, if not addressed, an emotional storm is likely. Fortunately, Ramorra in reverse suggests the temporary gift of foresight is within your grasp. Look…listen…feel. What is the source of the unstable energy being drawn to the situation? If you can find the source, you can possibly prevent it from becoming manifest. Look to your emotions, or to the emotions of someone nearby. The emotional Self of someone is under attack and, unless addressed head on, the instability of the situation will soon coordinate into the chaos of a storm. Apparently, there is time to address the situation and avoid the storm, so do not ignore the token. Find the will and emotional courage to act now, before the situation takes an undesirable turn. The path is unstable, look for the source of its weakness and repair it before moving forward on the path. ---- Ahreb (ah-reb) is the symbolic rune representing solitude. The current path requires you to travel alone. Walking a path in solitude can rejuvenate the Self, allowing it to take in all that surrounds it, undisturbed by the distractions of the world. Solitude can bring introspection, insight, and new knowledge to the Self. Sometimes, feelings of freedom and oneness with the world can only be achieved in solitude and, therefore, it should be embraced. But solitude cannot always be contrived or arranged, and it is not unusual to suddenly find ourselves alone unexpectedly. The challenge of solitude is to understand the lessons it is trying to convey to the Self, and not to fall into feelings of loneliness when confronted with those lessons. This is the greatest challenge of solitude - not to submit to the darker energies that hover around it, jealous of the power it commands. If despair and loneliness present themselves in the presence of solitude it is essential that you not succumb to their siren call. Refusing to turn solitude into something dark requires strength and conviction, and above all else, the ability to be comfortable being alone. When solitude appears on the path nourish the Self with knowledge, expose the Self to new things, allow the Self to heal if that is what is necessary. Quiet, tranquility, and harmony are some of the most powerful gifts of solitude, focus on these when you are lucky enough to have the Self to yourself. The path ahead is open to you alone. ---- Iluvame (ih-loov-ah-may) is the symbolic rune representing wholeness. The elements of the world, and the Self are balanced. Iluvame is a powerful source of energy for the Self and suggests your powers are in a heightened state, prepared for anything you may encounter on the path. The energies of the world are flowing through you and nourishing the Self. Likewise, the world is allowing your energies to flow through it, accepting the powers you are exerting on the environment. This is a time of tranquility and oneness with all that is around you, a time of great potential, an important moment on the journey. Embrace the moment and revel in your skill at finding this place and time on the path. The world is at your command so move forward with enthusiasm and focus, shining brightly. And do shine, because that is the challenge of Iluvame, to share in the good fortune that has appeared on your path. You have traveled so far to reach this place, now that you have arrived, what actions will you take next? The correct path is the one you can share. ---- Aavarae (eye-va-ray) is the life rune representing the Self. The Self is, simply, all that your are. The Self is you as a whole person, one that is both ego and alter ego, spirit and soul. The Self is unique, and each Self follows an exclusive path in life, takes a different journey than any other. The Self is you, manifested as an evolving and unique individual. When Aavarae appears, above all else, consider the uniqueness of your journey, of your path. You alone can find the correct answer, the correct action, the correct path. No one else has seen what you’ve seen, learned what you’ve learned, feel what you’ve felt and it is this individual journey that has led you here, to this time and place, confronted with a challenge that only you can resolve. When Aavarea appears the quality of the paths you’ve taken, the intentionality of your journeys, the evolution of you as an individual is to be tested. Understand the test, pay attention to the strengths and weakness you have brought to the situation because, as you address the challenge, you will learn what paths still need to be taken, which paths have served you well, and which paths you may not have considered along the way, but now must. Take inventory of who you are and how prepared you find yourself at the moment, understanding this is key to acting now and on the journey ahead. The correct path is the one only you can see. ---- Seredar (ser-eh-dare) is the life rune representing the womb. The womb is the most secure and nurturing place we have known in our lives. It represents the genesis of who we are, the potential of all we are to become. When Seredar appears, you are in the process of creation, of bringing forth something new to your world or to the Self. Seredar suggests that something truly unique is about to occur as a direct result of who you are, or from what you have set in motion. The womb’s place in the world is to develop that which has the energy of life, but which is not yet ready to see the light of day. Think carefully, what are you building, conceiving, desiring? If you do not know, you must find it soon and continue to nurture it, for only then will it manifest as you desire…providing you give it the care and protection it needs. When Seredar appears it is a time to feel the joy that comes from expectation, from knowing that something special is about to arrive in your life. But do not forget the fragility of the womb, take care of yourself, manage your thoughts, do not act rashly, or without proper consideration of the environment. As powerful as the womb is, it is also the most fragile of environments so protect it with as much zeal as you can muster. --
