After the Zombie Apocalypse II |

I got a reply for my post on After the Zombie Apocalypse and this is my response to it.
True, it’s in human nature to want shiny things. Some people I’m sure would like to keep a necklace, a gold ring or whatever else that has personal valuable to them; even if it’s useless in a zombie apocalypse. So it would makes sense that some people wouldn’t throw away their wedding rings because it still means something to them. But it also goes for other objects too, some people would go after photo albums because it means a whole lot to them, containing cherish memories of how things were before the apocalypse.
The whole ammo use for money is something that is most likely to happen. People will be hoarding weapons and ammo but when they break or when there’s no ammo left it’s pretty much useless. Some people say that they’ll fix the guns and/or make ammo but it’s a complicated process and requires knowledge, skills, tools and time. A whole lot of people aren’t going to know how to use guns, let alone how to fix, make ammo, have the tools for it, or have the time to do so. They’ll have to rely on old fashion weapons, ones that are quite, that are easy to handle and last a long time.
I agree, I rather have a gun then a machete when face with zombies. But realistically it’s gonna get me kill, especially on what kind of zombies we’re dealing with and how many there are. A gun is loud and it can attract a horde of zombies while a machete is quite and good to use on a few zombies. And it depends on the person and their common sense to know which weapon is best to use in certain situations.
As for getting supplies, that too depends on the area and how many survivors are alive. I wouldn’t be surprise if they loot every house for supplies, weapons and ammo. That is what happens with every zombie film and book. In The Walking Dead, that is how they survive the winter. They looted every house they came across for canned food, weapons and other supplies. At some point they were starving and so desperate for food that they would have eaten dog food.
When it comes to books, no one is going to remember them or care about them, especially during an outbreak. If a survivor is smart they’ll use the knowledge the books contain to their advantage. After all, if they survive long enough that the threat of zombies is few, that would mean they have all the time in the world now to read and to learn what they don’t know. They can find a library, maybe make it their fortress since no one will think of going to a library after it has calm down.
In the beginning stages of a apocalypse everyone will be too busy getting weapons and supplies. They’ll go to big stores and the malls thinking that they’ll be safe or be able to get supplies (or they’ll stay in their homes, hoping they’ll be safe and can out last the zombies). In reality that will be a death trap. After all if people die just from Black Friday, just imagine adding zombies into the mix. It will be a massacre. So chances are books will be left forgotten and untouched for a long time.
I remember watching a post-apocalyptic movie and it showed that the world was in shambles. That years have gone by and many things in the past were forgotten, technology, advance medicine, and even guns. There were tons of books left untouched and one of the survivors use those books to learn how to read and write. He even taught his son how to read and write, so that he would be educated and not forget how thing were like in the past. Because of books, they were able to learn from them and were able to find a cure for a disease that turn humans into monsters. And it was all because no one thought to use books, not even to use to make a fire or whatnot.
As for animals, it depends on what kind of zombie apocalypse we are dealing with. In Dawn of the Dead, the zombies had no interest in animals. They only cared about eating humans and left alone the dog. Even in the Land of the Dead , they still had animals and were raising them in the city. In The Walking Dead, zombies ate anything that was warm and alive…humans, horses, cows, deers, etc. In other zombie movies, the zombie virus only effected humans and not animals. While in other movies such as the ones you mention, the zombie virus effected everything. It really depends on what the zombie virus is and if we’re lucky enough to have a virus that doesn’t effect the animals. Because if we’re lucky then we’ll definitely find farm animals to raise and rebuild society again.
I don’t mind it at all! I enjoy having conversations about the zombie apocalypse because it’s fun and amusing to talk about. I’m grateful that you’re on Tumblr because I don’t have many people on here that would like to discuss such things. =) You’re always welcome to share any thoughts you have about it!
