Just in case, this is a spoiler for anyone who has yet to watch season 8, episode 1 of Supernatural called “We Need To Talk About Kevin”.
Sam, you didn’t even bother to try and look for Dean? To make sure that he was really sent to Purgatory? That he wasn’t sent to some part of the world with amnesia or something? You didn’t even try to get more information on Purgatory? It wouldn’t be surprising if you got a bunch of dead-ends but what matters is that you tried. That you did everything within your power to search for him or to find information. Then there’s Kevin, you didn’t try to search for him too? He must have been valuable to Crowley if he took him. If you couldn’t find him you could have also tried to search for information about the word of God. But no, you just gave up.
It seems out of character for Sam, for either of the brothers to not search for the other if they go missing. The only agreement they made was to not use supernatural means (like making deals with demons/doing evil things, etc) to release the other brother from Hell or the Cage. I never heard either of them make an agreement of not looking for the other. The closest thing was when Sam made Dean promise him that he wouldn’t waste his life or die trying to find a way to get him out of the Cage. Dean was reluctant but kept his promise when he realize that Sam was really gone (because he did try to find a way to save him) and that there was nothing he could do.
For Sam to just stop everything, to ignore Kevin and throw everything away about being a hunter just seems ridiculous. What if some sort of monster goes after him or anyone close to him for revenge? Or to kill him when his guard is down so that he’s one less threat around for them? The show made it very clear that once you’re a hunter, there’s no having a normal life. It will always come back to bite you in the a**.
I have a feeling that Dean isn’t the only one keeping secrets.
