Anime Convention: Panels/Workshop Ideas |

Are you thinking of doing a panel or workshop for a convention and need ideas? Well, here are some that have been done before and worked quite well. There’s also some that haven’t been done yet depending on what convention you’re going to. I’m going to list a couple of ideas below in hopes that it’ll inspired you. If not don’t be afraid to add your own spin to them or create something new.
For those that don’t know, panels are open ended discussions involving some pre-determined topic, usually related in at least some way to anime. Topics can include manga, favorite voice-actors, details about a particular anime show, series, or movie. Panels may also be about more general topics such as cosplay, fanfiction, video games, or even industry related topics such as production or licensing.
Workshops are slightly different than a panel, a workshop is more like guided instruction through a major or specific task, typically instructed by an individual (often a convention guest). The instructor could either demonstrate or instruct people on how to accomplish tasks such as how to draw manga, make computer animation, or how to become a voice actor.
Panel Ideas:
Otome Games Don’t know what it is then don’t worry, we’ll introduce you to the world of Otome. You’ll learn what’s new and what great games to check out.
Cosplay To Career Did you know that there are ways to use cosplay experience for a job? Or careers based on it? Such as your costume making skills can be used in professions you may not think of.
Writers’ Strange Writing Rituals Each writer has their own process, habits, and methods for getting the ideas to flow onto the page. We’ve research and gather a list of their methods, tips, and tricks that may work for you as well.
How To Run a Panel Have you ever thought about running a panel? If you have a great deal of knowledge on a subject and would like to share it, then we’ll show you how.
Bad Fics Galore! Oh, the horror! So many spelling and grammar mistakes. Plot of doom! The dreaded Mary Sue! OOCs (out of characters) and so on. We’ve all faced bad fics. Most of us have possibly wrote some ourselves until we wised up. It’s time we share those horrors and learn to avoid these mistakes in our own writing.
Japanese Folktales, Fairytales and Myths (13+) Come and listen to the story teller share tales from the land of the rising sun. In this panel you will not only hear interesting stories, but you will also learn more about their purpose and place in Japanese culture. For a (18+) panel, considering changing it to Bedtime Stories: Japanese Tales. The lights in the room are dimmed down to set the atmosphere and only the storyteller holds the flashlight. It’s time to listen to the more darker and gory stories.
Hentai Taught Me Everything (18+) Prepare to laugh until your guts burst out in a gory mess. Hentai is educational and it shows us how it’s really done in real life (no matter how ridiculous it is). Really. Your lover is watching you sleep means they love you a lot. Being bully around means they’re just shy in admitting they like you.
Con Horror Stories (18+) Otaku can be a scary bunch. Come hear from some of the con veterans about their most painful experiences. If you have a con horror story, don’t be afraid to share with us.
Con on a Budget The cost of a convention depends on a lot of factors: size of the convention, how many days you plan to attend, how far you need to travel, etc. Other things to consider are gas, food, and hotel costs as well as spending money. It can get pretty costly but we”ll show you how to save money and keep yourself to a budget.
Workshop Ideas:
Cooking Kawaii: Guide to Bento Want to know the secret on how to make those “super kawaii” lunches you see in anime? Want to appeal to that special someone with your creative cooking? What about making a American version of it? Watch as we guide you through creating your own “Kawaii Bento.”
How to Draw Anime and Manga It’s basically a beginner’s guide to learning how to draw in those styles. They’ll learn how to draw using popular and current examples of characters. Learn basic anatomy, how to make the picture tell a story and so on.
Origami Workshop Anyone interested will learn how to paper fold animals and make other creations.
