Once upon a time, there was a great, but lonely King. The King had spent his whole youth fighting against his country's enemies, that by the time the land had peace, he was an old man. This saddened the King deeply, as he now wanted his own child and wife. Winter, spring, summer and fall came, and the old King became more and more depressed. As a last resort, the King went on a journey through his land to visit all the villages, hoping to find an orphan he could take in or a wife to marry. Sadly, due to the former wars, everyone wanted to keep their own children, and no one could bare the pain of separating themselves from their sons and daughters. As for wives, all the women were already well married off or promised away. Just as the King was about to give up, a poor, ugly widow came forth to take up on the King's offer. "I may not look like much, with hair of wires and body of bones, but I'm faithful and kind, and love with all my heart. If you want happiness and family, I will do my best to fulfill your wish". The King was moved by the widow's gentle soul, and they married the very next day, living together for many happy years. On their third anniversary, the King and widow was blessed with a daughter with skin of pure snow white, hair as black as ebony and lips as red as blood. Unfortunately the widow died of illness not long after the birth, and the King became once again depressed, though he now had a child. The widow's corpse was burned to ashes and a rose bush was placed on her grave in the castle grounds. The princess remained unnamed for many months while the King mourned over his wife's death. As winter returned and the King and the princess played outside, the princess dug through the snow and found a frozen flower in the gardens. "Look papa!" the princess said as she gave it to her father. "It's mama". Astounded over the princess little outburst, the King named his daughter "Rose" as a tribute to his late wife.
Despite the company of princess Rose, the King felt horribly lonely. "Why not marry someone beautiful this time?" the King's adviser suggested. "As great as you are, you need someone proper to match". The King agreed, and set up a grand ball, inviting the other kings, queens, lords and ladies from around the world. As midnight approached on the day of the ball, the King was presented to a beautiful woman dressed in black, and fell head over heels in love with her. The King married her the very next morning, happy that he no longer as alone and that his young daughter had a mother again. Little did the King know his new queen was an evil witch who only wanted his throne. Not long after, the King died under mysterious circumstances. The people got suspicious of their new queen, and rumors started to spread. Was it murder? Perhaps.
As the years passed, princess Rose became fairer and fairer, while the queen grew more and more jealous of her. By the time princess was 14, the queen have had enough. "Find me an unstoppable hunter" she commanded her servants. The queens henchmen sought through out the land far and wide, till they found the perfect man for the job; a wolf.
