I’ve realize that I didn’t plot out my novel as well as I thought. So I’m a little stuck and it’s not a writer’s block but more of where I want my story to go. There’s a lot of options but I don’t know which is the best for my characters to take. So while I try and figure out what to do, I have a suggestion/advice for those that are doing NaNoWriMo. That’s to plan out your novel! It doesn’t have to be in detail but have a basic outline of what you what to happen in each chapter. If not that then plan out your plot and make a few notes on where and what will happen.
Trust me I’ve tried writing a story/novel on the whim (you know, writing as I think of it) but I kept getting writer’s block non-stop because I didn’t know where I was going with the story. Sometimes I would have a idea and I write it but later on I realize that it can’t work anymore and I have to redo the whole story. It takes a lot of work for me. However, if I make an outline of what’s going to happen and make little notes in what should happen in each chapter it’s easier for me.
I have goals in mind when I write and it’s feel more achievable to me when I can see the ending to my story and that’s because I know what it is. Plus it’s an plan, an outline which can always be edited or revise as you’re writing. It’s not a scar that will forever stay the same, so a person can change or add things to it.
I planned out my novel but I didn’t plan out the little details that lead into certain events so sometimes I have a bit of trouble to figure that out. So yeah, plan it out…it gives you a starting point in what direction to head. You know, not be completely off and start introducing random ideas.
