Here's a story:
I have two jobs: one at a fitness gym and another at a sub shop. I had a day where my shifts at both jobs overlapped for an hour. Since I had been unable to find a substitute for the later shift (at the gym), I had to keep my shift at the sub shop and be late to my shift at the gym. My boss at the gym was alerted ahead of time.
At the sub shop, my job is to make deliveries. To my surprise, one of those deliveries was to my boss at the gym. When I had delivered the meal, I had the pleasure of listening to my boss tell me about how him having to write me up that day was nothing personal, it was just business...while he was giving me my tip for the delivery.
I have to wonder: is there a word for a situation like that? I think the word is "awkward."
