I'm surprise in myself for wanting to read this book, Be The People by Carol M. Swain because I'm not one for these types of books. But I decided to take a chance and read it because if it caught my attention then it's possible that I might enjoy it. It turns out that I did! Most books I've come across like theses were boring and were too forceful in their views without taking into consideration of the other side and other concerns or possibilities. Carol Swain, a Christian writes from her perspective but she also keeps in mind of those other views which helps to allow readers an unbiased view.
This book is a call to action for We The People and it's “intended for three distinct groups. First, the book is presented as a tribute to the 78 percent of Americans who profess a belief in the Judeo-Christian God and who find themselves increasingly disillusioned with the ethical and moral shifts in our political and social institutions. Second, the book offers points to ponder and debate for conservation scholars, public makers, intellectual of all faiths, and persons interested in public policy, religion, and politics. Lastly, it offers atheists and secular humanists an opportunity to examine closely the values and principles that motivate a segment of the population they disparage as the Christian Right.” (Swain)
As you read this you'll come across chapters about the deceptions that have enter our culture, the historical and biblical roots of these issues, and you'll be provide with action points that will help you to take the next steps. Just like the author of this book, I too “urge you to read this book carefully, educate yourself on the issues and facts, and then join the thousand other Americans who are taking the risk to restore our country's faith and values.”
No matter what your beliefs are and your position in politics, give this book a chance because you might just enjoy it and if not, at least it was informative, educational and hopefully enlighten you in some way.
