Character and Writing Archive
My early entries concerned my real life back when I was a teen. Now a days, I find my journal to be a wonderful place to store some of my shorter writings and of course, character profiles. Feel free to look through them, and comment when you see fit
Blake
Full Name - Blake Lugan

Preferred Name - Blake, Captain

Age - 29

Race - Sea Elf

Height - 5'9"

References - Album

Description - As a sea elf, Blake has light blue skin and pointed ears. He has feathery white hair, and looks like he has perpetual bed head. He has red eyes, and is almost always smirking or smiling in some way. No facial hair; it's notoriously difficult for elves to get any sort of hair on their faces, to his chagrin. He's wiry and lean, and he isn't scared to show off his muscles. He has a few scars from his rough life as a pirate, of course, and stories to go with them. One scar of particular interest is the scar he got from getting struck by lightning, It resembles a a tree in winter time (both roots and branches), and trails down the left side of his back. It's fairly large and noticeable.

Clothing - Blake hates shirts, and refuses to wear them unless it's absolutely necessary. He usually wears a raggedy faded black cloak with chains attached to it, an old blue scarf, arm guards, and blue and black pants. He's almost never seen without his captain's hat, though if he is without, he wears a black bandanna to keep his hair out of his eyes.

Personality - Blake is a cocky b*****d. He's arrogant and charming, the perfect pirate rogue. Very good with the ladies, that one. There's always a smirk of some sort on his face, a sparkle in his eyes. He loves to tease and boast about his accomplishments, though he doesn't take teasing as well as he gives it. He can be easily flustered if someone knows the right buttons to push. When he gets serious, it's like night and day. Blake thinks well on his feet, though he often doesn't think ahead. He's good at tactics, not strategy, and his blind actions often get him into trouble. Temper-wise, Blake is very slow to anger. He's a master of stern rage. It takes a lot to really piss him off, but when he's mad, you'll know. Not so when he's sad or hurting; Blake has been taught from a young age to hide those emotions, and he'll often conceal his hurt with a smile and a joke.

Blake is very prideful. It's why he's such a charming rogue, why he's so cocky and arrogant and teasing. He's extremely confident in himself and his abilities. He does not take disrespect well, and refuses to bend to fit anyone else's standards unless he deems it fit. Blake can hold grudges against anyone who he sees as slighting him. Once said grudges are in place, it can be near impossible to break them; when they're setting, there is still a chance.

Character History - Blake is a pirate brat, through and through. He was born and raised on The Nereid, along with his two older siblings. He had a fairly good childhood as these things go, if he was a bit lonely. His brother never bothered with him, and his sister, though she loved her little brother deeply, was often busy. Blake bonded with the crew and ship cats, and when he was a little older, with his sister as well.

Blake lost his mother at thirteen, in a battle with a military ship. There started his enmity for Henri's father, who was serving on the ship to get experience with fighting, and was the one who dealt the killing blow. The loss sparked a change in the boy, and he endeavored to learn everything he could from his father and the crew. He grew even closer to his sister, who was the only female role model he had left.

When Blake was twenty, his brother left the ship, looking to make his own fortune in something besides pirating. The sudden loss hit Blake's father hard, and he died not long after. As per custom in the Lugan family, his father's heirlooms were passed out to each child. His sister got the hat, and enough treasure to buy her own ship and crew. Blake received his father's sword, and The Nereid. His brother, who was supposed to inherit the ship and title of captain as the oldest son, got his father's pistol instead. He was happy with that, since he wanted nothing to do with pirating.

Blake blamed his brother for their father dying, and that sparked a feud between the two. Their sister played mediator, managing to keep things civil between the brothers. She didn't blame her brother, and understood his reasoning far better than Blake did; hence, she respected and accepted his choice, and through a lot of work, got Blake to at least respect it. She and Blake were very close, and often sailed together, or came to each other's aid when they were called.

Blake was devastated when she died. He learned about her fate through his brother, who had been working in a nearby port city. Blake immediately cast the blame on him in his grief, and relations between the two deteriorated again. Blake disowned his sibling, and never even acknowledged that he had a brother from that point forward. As far as he was concerned, he was an only child; the memory of his sister hurt too much, and the thought of his brother filled him with hatred.

Blake retrieved the hat from the wreckage later on, and gave his sibling a proper send off. He treasures his hat greatly, since it's the only thing he has left of her.

For the next ten years or so, Blake sailed the seas, visiting new places and finding new treasures. He worked hard to gain the respect and admiration of his crew, many of whom knew the elf as a boy. He grew into his role as Captain, and is an old hand at raiding ships and pirating. One of his repeat targets was the kingdom of Indun, who's king had killed his mother. He stole the royal jewels, and very recently, the heir to the throne, a spoiled prince named Henri. The consequences of his actions are yet to be seen.

Recently, Blake has encountered a fiery cat pirate named Lana. She and he sparred both verbally and physically several times. Blake enjoyed the encounters greatly. To his surprise, a recent raid on a merchant's ship put the cat under his control; who knows what will come from this turn of events?

Blake is currently healing from an encounter with a sea dragon. He's paralyzed from the waist down, and only time will tell if he will keep his Captain position. His ship is headed for Nimmage, an infamous port city located on the border of Arcova and Thasini, to dock and repair.

Abilities

Elf Sense - Blake always knows when other elves are around. This only works for people who are mostly elf.

Equipment

Sword - Blake carries his father's blade. It's made of an unknown metal that looks blue in the light. Notoriously sharp and strong, Blake has to go to a special place for any repairs to be made to it.

Rapier - Blake carries a rapier whenever he doesn't have his father's sword.

Hat - Not really equipment, this item has heavy sentimental value for Blake. He would do anything to get it back should it be lost.

Companions - His crew. Special mention for Mitch (first mate, soon to be second), Jim (second mate, soon to be first), Nate (a night elf in charge of the night shift), and Tricia (part time cook). Also Davis, the day watchman.

Notes - Based off an avi. Age may change, depending on what backreading reveals. Associated with Charlotte, Tiberius, Henri (CWF), Lana (AS), and Tricia.

Sea Elf race is under development. Currently, they can't be drowned, and have to be near some sort of water at all times, or they start getting sick. Eye color is red, yellow, or blue. Not susceptible to iron poisoning like other fey.
