There was a definite bond, no chance of separation between the two identical girls. They did everything together, even braved the streets of this dark kingdom. Fun was the thing they both enjoyed, but it was taken away when orders were given. Were they not loved enough by the two people who had created them? They willingly gave the girls up just to please the leader, it was a suicide mission for people of their age. Even if they had superiors with them, there was no place to be safe on that other planet. Earth.
“Wake up.” I heard the familiar voice say to me, nudging my body softly. “We’re here.” She said, all excited.
I opened my blue eyes, meeting a pair of light red ones and the smiling face of my sister. “Already?” I asked, sitting up, rubbing my eye.
Persephone scoffed, “you are such a dead sleeper.” She giggled a bit, taking my hand and pulling me out of the small bed. “C’mon, Lation will be mad if we don’t get out soon.” She winked at me, “I know you don’t want to make him angry do you?
I followed her pulling, laughing, trying to hide my embarrassment. “Shut up.” Was all I could say, feeling my cheeks flush a bit. Persephone laughed and tugged me along, out of our small room and into the center of our ship. This was the control area, but the lights were off, no one was here.
Once I could feel my legs, I began to walk by my sister’s side, her arm was linked with mine as we made our way out of the ship. “Earth.” Persephone said, stepping onto the soft sand, looking around the place humans called the desert. “It feels warm.” She looked at me, watching me examine the place, but mainly looked towards the mountains where the sun was setting.
I was smiling like an idiot, warm… It was something I’d never felt before without a blanket around me. Our home was cold, there was never a sun, never any light in their kingdom. “I think I already like this place.” I said, looking at my sister, smiling still.
“Me too.” she replied, then looked over and tugged me along. “Look! I see the others!” She gasped, and I followed quickly, looked over her shoulder to see who was there.
There was Lation, he was talking to the others. There were two men, one named Keiton, the other was called Jagger. I didn’t know his real name. Keiton was a tall, slender guy with black hair and eyes, he specialized in weapons and the technology. Jagger was a much bigger guy, with a scar on his left cheek, short black hair, and dark green eyes. He scared me, so I didn’t really talk to him that much. Lation was a tall man, narrow shoulders, and a built body. He had a triangle shaped face surrounded by his shoulder length hair that contrasted with his pale skin and ice blue eyes. He, like my sister and I, were one of the ones with the unusual eyes colors, or as some of the others in our kingdom would say: “Blessed.”
Beside Lation, was a woman named Erika with short black hair along her jaw line, and black eyes as well. She was tall too, with a toned body, in fact, she looked stronger than Keiton.. Which also kinda scared me too…
Lation looked at us, his face serious as always, but it changed to a smile. “Nice of you to join us.” he said, then turned back to the others, becoming serious again. “Now, we are a good distance away form a nearby town called Sells.” He explained, “once we get there, we will take rout 86 to Interstate 10 to phoenix. Once we get there, I will tell you the next step. Any questions?”
Persephone raised her hand, “what state are me in?” She asked, smiling even though Lation still looked serious.
“Arizona.” He replied.
“How long will it take?” She questioned.
“I guess you’ll have to wait and see.” He said.
“Can we ride with you?”
“If you keep your mouth shut.”
Persephone nodded then looked at me, still smiling. “Ready for another nap?” She asked,
I nodded, smiling a bit then watched as Keiton walked back to the ship, and a few moments later, the back opened. I didn’t know we had human cars on board. One was bigger than the other, both were black, and the windows were dark too.
“I call the Hummer.” Jagger said, walking towards the two cars that were now outside of the ship.
“I’ll ride with you then.” Erika said bluntly, following Jagger.
Keiton was already in one of the cars, I assumed was the hummer since Jagger got inside and Erika got in the back. I then looked over at the ship, watching as it began to blend in with it’s surroundings.
“C’mon!” Persephone dragged me again, towards the other car, following Lation. She let go when we reached the vehicle and she went for the front seat so I sat in the back. Lation sat in the drivers seat, stared the car and began to drive before I even got to buckle my seat belt.
“So what are we going to do when we get the Phoenix?” I asked, curious, and watched his eyes look into the rear view mirror at me then back to the front.
“We’re going to take a plane to New York, that’s where the boy has been located. Once we get to New York, we will search until we find him and kill him.” He replied simply.
“Even though I was trained to do that, I still felt sorry for the boy. He was just a kid, someone who deserved to live. Just because they were born with a certain name didn’t mean they would live up to what their name meant… Well, not always.
“Don’t worry, it will be quick and easy.” He said, looking at me again through the mirror. “Then after that, we’ll return to our Kingdom, and we will all be seen as Heroes.”
Persephone smiled widely, “sounds like a plan.” She said, “maybe after this, our parents will pay more attention to us.” She said, I knew she didn’t mean too because she then looked out of the window, growing silent.
Lation now had his eyes ahead again, he was silent too, and all I could hear now was the soft purr of the engine. “Can you turn on some music please?” I asked, wondering if I got it correct or not. We had been practicing our English, the older people were perfect at it, but Persephone and I were still learning a bit.
“Sure.” Lation replied, pressing a button and turned a small knob and the volume of the sound increased a bit, just enough to cover the engine sounds.
I listened to the music, leaning my head against the window of the car, wondering why wasn’t there any of this stuff in the Kingdom? No melodies, or tunes. No singing, or words like the humans had. This song that was one had a soft voice, a slow rhythm, and a nice and relaxing melody. It effected her though, making her relax, feel calm. It was like that one thing.. What was it called again?
“It’s like a lullaby…” Persephone mumbled, and I nodded, smiling a bit.
“Yeah, that’s what it’s called.” I replied, before closing my eyes, letting my mind relax too, before falling asleep.
