So, on April 22, 2010, my sister's (Sissy Blade's) newer Gateway tablet PC's display went out. A while ago, it was dim on the left side, but it wasn't on the right. Then on that day, it cut off completely. It came back on, but it was a red hue. That's when I decided to bring an external monitor from my server, then from my dual monitor setup to prove a point. It worked fine. After my sis yelled "I HATE ICE PATH!!!!1!" while playing Pokémon Soul Silver, the screen cut off again. It was too funny. So for now, she has to use a bulky CRT monitor for daily computer use.
So I bought a new one instead of a used one. Apparently, her Gateway model had problematic displays when they were new at the time, which was 2006. I'm just surprised it lasted three years. Also bought an inverter (for $10 USD) just in case.
On the subject of computers, I'm finally upgrading the old Dell Dimension 8200 and my Toshiba Satellite M35X-S114 laptop. Upgraded parts on both the Dell Dimension and the Toshiba Satellite are: CPU, RAM. The laptop gets a replacement adapter, like my sister's laptop did.
The original -> upgraded are as follows:
CPU D8200: Pentium 4 2.0GHz -> Pentium 4 2.8GHz M35X: Celeron M 1.3GHz -> Pentium M 1.7GHz
RAM D8200: 1GB -> 1.5GB M35X: same as above. Coincidental, man.
The D8200 is more difficult to upgrade because it required more research on what worked with what, and it was a lot likely that it didn't even work. I remember trying a Celeron in that PC (despite the fact it wasn't even documented in the manual) and it worked. Hopefully the existing RAM can coexist with the new CPU. If not, I can attempt to buy some new RAM in the future.
