1. How about a brief introduction of yourself? Okay, I'm Paula. In the fanfiction world I'm known as DamnBlackHeart. You can call me DBH for short. But on here, tumblr, I'm known as Ghostflowerdreams. Originally, I wanted to use my commonly known username but it was already taken. 2. Fabulous! And what got you into fanfiction to begin with? Well, I don't exactly remember because it was a long time ago. But I guess it was watching anime and my interest in writing stories in general. Which then led me to looking for sites and I started to read a lot of fics dealing with my favorite fandoms. I was mostly a ghostreader until I joined and started writing my own. 3. I see, so what kind of fanfiction do you like to write? All kinds. But I usually stick to writing adventure, comedy, romance and sometimes a bit of angst or horror. As for the fandoms, however...there's many that I have written for and others that I wish to write for someday. So it'll be a long list to type up. Also, I like to write drabbles/ficlets/oneshots when I'm bored or stuck with a writer block. I write long chaptered fics too. Again, I write all kinds...well almost. 4. Do you tend to write the same pairing/characters? Or are you a fandom whore? I don't think so. Majority of my fics are reader x male character...if you consider that as same pairing, but it's not with the same characters though. I do like to expand in writing other characters because it's a nice challenge in keeping them in character. Sometimes I do write OC x male characters from different fandoms like anime, manga, movies, tv shows, video games, cartoons, comic...etc. as well.
5. What is your most popular fanfic and why do you think people like it so? Hm, my Devil's Tricks and Hell's Treats, a Devil May Cry fic because it's the one that I update the most and is pretty fun to write/read. But so is my You're in Fukashigi Land, a Naruto fic which is an AU story that's inspired by Alice in Wonderland. But sadly I rarely update it since I don't have much inspiration to continue it but I am working on it, slowly though.
6. Forget other people, what is the fanfic you've written you're most proud of? I'm not proud of the fics I wrote when I was younger but the ones I do I like are a lot better and are more recent. If I had to choose one, I have to say my Devil May Cry, Devil's Tricks and Hell's Treats because it's honesty fun to read and is soon coming to an end. That makes me happy because it'll be the first chaptered story that I've ever finished. 7. Do you find writing easy? Hard? What are the most difficult aspects of writing you struggle with? I find it easy when I have inspiration flowing through me. However, it does get hard when I stumble across a writer block or when I lost my muse for it. It's even more difficult to write if I have no idea where I'm going with the story which is why I try to plan out my story before writing...or at least write out an outline of what's going to happen in each chapter.
8. Write a few sentences or so of your favorite pairing or character. ...I'm very lazy at the moment to write something but maybe later? 9. Are there any fanfiction trends/cliches you can't stand or are just sick of? Slash. Yaoi. Mary-Sue. And the cliches...mostly all of them. For example, the characters falling in love quickly and so on. Also when the canon things are ignored or when realism is ignored too. Really if a character is a human and wasn't wearing a coat in the middle of the storm for hours...wouldn't they have gotten sick afterwards? Oh and OOC without a good reason for their behavior. And the lack of research as well. It's not that difficult to look up the female's reproductive system when writing a lemon. So I get annoyed, horrible so when writers don't know their stuff, like where the hymen really is or that not all virgins will be in pain if it's done right. Honestly, there's a lot of cliches and things that just annoys the hell out of me. So I'm just leave it at that or else I'll start ranting.
10. Are you guilty of any of the fanfiction trends/cliches you now hate? Or any other ones? Yeah, when I was younger. The first few stories I wrote then, two really, were horrible. They were so Mary-Sue and contain wishful thinking without me realizing it. I've actually deleted it because it sucks and I don't want it existing.
11. What was the first fandom you wrote for? Do you still like/participate in it? Yu Yu Hakusho. Yeah, I still love it and write some fanfics for it but not a lot. I'm hoping that sometime in the future that I'll write more for the fandom.
12. Name your OTPs or most frequently written pairings/characters and explain what it is about them you love to write. Well...there's a lot of the pairings. Some I've already written for and there's some that I plan to write for in the future. But here's a list of some, Reader x Dante (Devil May Cry), Reader x Kon (Bleach), Reader x Ichigo (Bleach), Reader x Chris (Resident Evil), Reader x Billy (Resident Evil), Demyx x Reader (Kingdom Hearts), Sai x Reader (Naruto), Dean x Reader x Sam (Supernatural), Sora x Reader (Kingdom Hearts), You x Matt (Death Note), Kon x Reader x Ichigo (Bleach)...etc. ...notice a pattern? I mostly like to write in the You/Reader-insert stories. I like how interactive it is and how it can suck the readers into the story and make them feel closer to the plot and the characters of the story. 13. What would you call your writing "style"? I don't know. I guess it's adding some realism to it. I like stories a lot more when they add elements of reality to them because it allows readers to feel more connected to the characters and to understand them better. Besides doing so makes them think and feel like it's a possibility of actually happen in the fandom if such a thing happen in it. Plus, I like being very detail without going over board. At least enough that the readers can picture everything in their mind and be sucked into it, as though they're watching a movie or something. The great thing about it too is that those that are curious and never heard of the fandom become a fan because they don't get lost. I noticed that many stories don't write the description of the canon characters because many assume that those reading it are already familiar with it. But honesty, it shouldn't be that way. It makes the canon characters seem 2 dimensional and lacking depth.
14. Do you read other people's fanfic? If so, what do you find yourself reading the most? Yeah, I do read people's fanfics. Mostly reader-inserts but I do tend to look for OC stories too. Many OC stories tend to be Mary-Sue stories but I find that it is worth the effort in digging through them to find the really good non Mary-sue ones. I also like to read fics with my favorite pairings too, like Cloud x Tifa or Roxas x Namine but rarely do I read them. 15. Name one thing you'd love to write, but have been too afraid or shy to do. Before I was scared to write lemons because I just didn't want them to be crappy or seem novice. But after reading a lot and educating myself I gotten confident and better with practice. Now, nothing like that bothers me. 16. Do you have trouble taking criticism (not flames)? Or worse yet, do you have the dreaded bloated ego? Oh, no. I welcome criticism so getting them helps me so much. I know that people who give me criticism means well and only wish to let me know in order for me to better myself. And no, I don't have an ego. My low self esteem doesn't allow that. XD 17. When you write, is there anything that helps? Music? Quiet room? I like to be alone with no distractions. It's even better if I have nothing plan for that day and that it's sunny and warm. Or at night. For some reason, at night is when the urge to write hits me and I get in the mood to right. Sometimes music helps me too, but it depends on what I'm writing and what it's about. 18. What inspires you? A lot of things. Watching a movie, reading a book, reading a fanfic. Listening to songs or just talking to friends. Most of the times plot bunnies are born from the conversations I have with friends or from things in my life. 19. Lastly, how would you sum up your fanfiction experiences and yourself as a writer? A good start to understanding published authors and the fandoms I love. As well as, it helped me to develop my writing skills, at the same time I'm doing something I enjoy. It's pretty much a good thing when it's done right and people do learn from it. Whether it's too master the ability to keep a character in character through out the whole story or some other reason. I learned a lot and it has helped me greatly, so much that I feel confident enough to try writing an original novel and hope to one day finish and get it published.
