Her hair is strawberry blonde (I believe I described it as 'the color of crushed strawberries in champagne') and pixie-cut. Her eyes are almond shaped and light green. Mae is built thin and waifish, with strong but elegant arms and legs. If she's wearing the golden girdle, then she also gets a nice-sized bust, but is otherwise pretty flat. She only wears skirts on formal occasions, opting instead for menswear-inspired clothing. She always wears a pair of bumblebee earrings and a pendant shaped like a gold apple cut in half.
Her full name is Maëlyse Juliette Charmant, and was raised in Montmartre, Paris with her single father, who remarried when she was 8, and her older half-brother Luc. Luc and Maëlyse are very close and have a difficult time with their step-mother, who feels she competes with them and the memory of their mothers for her husband's attention. Maëlyse won the silver in archery in the summer Olympics for France when she was around 18. This gave her several scholarship opportunities, so she accepted one to Columbia, placing her close to her brother's school (he left as soon as he could) and far from her stepmother. Here, Maëlyse became a bit of a socialite. She goes to several parties when she can, but tends to emotionally keep people at bay. She drives a sports bike on top of her love of archery. Her hobbies and fame don't really lend her much time to really study, but she doesn't mind it much. She's not an idiot, but she really couldn't care less about academics. Via a sweet but creepy secret admirer, she became friends with Felix and acquired the nickname 'Mae' from his inability to properly say her name (by French standards, at least). Personality-wise, Mae is a little cold, a little sarcastic, fairly indulgent, often vain and very impulsive. She really only keeps her brother and Felix close. She never gets along with her poor studious roommate. Her English is fluent, but she keeps a bit of an accent 'for the sake of being charming.'"
