Lol wrote this a while ago.. never got the chance to continue. Maybe I should pick it up again. lol And actually type the beggining if I can find it. O.o
Miles set on a tree branch unhappily. He knew Effie would be here soon. Probably in a day or two and there was no hope of getting the amulet if he couldn't find it. The wind blew causing the bare branch he set on to sway. Effie appeared on the ground beneath where Miles was setting. She must be getting impatient Miles thought to himself. He jumped down. “I couldn’t get it Lady Effie.” He said regretfully.
“I know. Now I have to go get it, but first you are going back to ready things for my return and your return to the human world.” She told him her voice clearly showing her annoyance.
She grabbed his shoulder and they both vanished leaving nothing but the wind rustling the fallen leaves behind.
Kaida was talking to Akshay as they continued traveling east to the Royal woods. He told Kaida that they were very close now, probably only a day or two away.
The next thing Kaida knew the scale on her necklace was glowing and Akshay, Aydan, and Ella had fallen to the ground. They were trying to breath but couldn’t. Kaida looked around the clearing. She saw a tall woman easily a half foot taller then her leaning against a tree. She had long black hair that was bound, and eyes the color of blood. She was leaning against a tree wearing clothes made of leather. Her vest was red t match her eyes and the pants were black. Across her back was a large two handed war ax.
Effie’s brows furrowed in annoyance. How could she have known? Then before she even realized what was happening Kaida had a dagger out and sent it flying through the air aimed right at Effie. The dagger grazed Effie’s cheek and broke her concentration.
The air returned to the area where Kaida stood. She could see that everyone was breathing but unconscious. She looked back to Effie. The scratch on her cheek was healed and the look on her face was murderous. Effie was rubbing where the dagger had grazed her, with the other hand she was collecting ki. It appeared as though she was just holding out her hand waiting for something to fall out of the air into it. Even though her hand appeared empty Kaida could sense the immense ki that she had gathered. Effie sent the ki flying straight at Kaida and the barrier.
Kaida cringed as the barrier shattered. At the same moment the scale around her neck shattered too. Kaida knew she was the only thing standing between her friends and death. Effie summoned the amulet to her open hand. It broke the chain it was on and flew to the open waiting hand. As Kaida saw it fly by she asked. “Who are you?”
“Little girl I don’t think you need to know, but since you won’t be alive much longer I suppose I could tell you. I am the war goddess, Effearian. You and your friends have kept the amulet from me for far too long.” Her voice was dripping with venom and hatred.
“What do you want with it?” Kaida asked hoping to buy some time.
Effie’s eyes narrowed. “Again that is none of your concern. I suppose I could humor you since you k now who and what I am and still defy me. I will use this amulet to restart the Human and Elven war. Miles will be my key to the human’s loyalty. Now I grow tired of seeing you, just die.” She summoned elemental ki to her hand as she finished her last sentence.
Around her hand was a current of red energy, it flickered twice and a ball of flame replaced it. Effie being a vessel for ki had an advantage over most mortal spell casters. She needed no chant or ingredients to cast a spell. She aimed the ball at Kaida and let it lose.
Kaida barely had the energy gathered to put up her barrier in time. She had attempted to pull it from Effie, but of course she was guarded against something like that. The flames hit the barrier and it almost fell. Kaida quickly reinforced it with the chant she would use to cast it. The first hit had drained Kaida a lot. A look of calm serenity washed over her. She would either drive Effie off or die trying. At this point it looked to be the later, but Kaida was never much of a pessimist. The barrier took another hit, it knocked Kaida back. Effie wasn’t playing anymore. Effie was tired of playing. She was glaring at Kaida now. Kaida knew the barrier couldn’t take many more hits. Her breathing was already labored from the toll the barrier was taking on her. Effie summoned more elemental ki for another attack. She threw the flames at Kaida, they hit and the barrier faltered. Kaida fell to one knee, her head bowed. Effie crowed with joy. She began to approach Kaida slowly telling her how she would torture and kill all four of them. Assuring her she would get to watch her friends die before she did.
Once Kaida heard the threats made towards her friends, people she loved like siblings, something snapped inside her. Somewhere deep inside her a dam broke causing large amounts of ki to flow through her. Kaida rose to her feet.
“You will not harm the people I hold dear to me. I don’t care if you are a goddess or the Creator, Chrono, Himself. You will not harm them.” Her words were clearly audible even though they were spoken in a whisper.
With those words said an electric hum filled the clearing and the wind picked up. It swirled around Kaida and the barrier became stronger then before. Behind her a form was taking shape. It was hazy and ethereal, but Effie knew it immediately. It was the form of a Dragon. It was merely a projection but its scales still shown a gleaming purple and its eyes were an odd shade between blue and purple.
Kaida opened her eyes. They were now the same color as the Dragons and they had a vertical slit for a pupil. They were shining with a fury that could only be caused by her friends being threatened.
Effie stopped in mid step. How could she have not known that this annoyance was a Dragon? This would make things a bit harder. Still Effie knew every mortal had its limits, even a Dragon. She backed up and renewed her onslaught on the barrier.
Kaida could feel every impact drain some ki from her, but not to the extent it had the first time. She knew the barrier would hold much longer now, but she still didn’t know how to get rid of Effie.
Llewellyn set in the same dark room he always set in when he was using his scrying pool. He had watched Kaida since she was born. He had watched all the sorrow and hardships she had lived through. He had also seen all the joy. Now as he watched her trying to hold off a lesser goddess, someone immortal with nearly limitless ki, now more then ever he wanted to help her. Now more then any other time he cursed his “father” Chrono for the compulsion he had laid on the gods.
Far away in Briarwood, in Kaida’s room, Reangatta was enjoying the comfort of Kaida’s bed. He could have stayed anywhere in the city, but Kaida had offered and he didn’t want to offend by not accepting. Normally he didn’t mind offending mortals, but somehow he had gotten attached to both Kaida and Sand. There were very few mortals he would let scratch behind his ears. Partially because they were mortal, and even the most long lived ones eventually die. He knew when these two did it would hurt a lot.
