[Vanerin Marquard]
Crystal Knight in Training.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

The sound of water splashing on the cold marble floor signaled the end of a long reverie. A pair of startiling purple eyes opened and then closed momentarily as if seeking to
hold on to whatever memory had passed. A soft intake of breath, an even softer release, this was indeed reality. Vanerin Marquard is now officially on an airship bound for the City of Oren.
The preparation that the young girl, barely out of girlhood, had endured was painful and difficult. Under her father's supervision, they had camped out on one of the less populated eastern borders of the country in dire need of support against the rampaging horde. Deaths were commonplace, friends were separated, life just trickled by like the sand on an hourglass. Vanerin's innocence was taken away as she performed her first kill, witnessed the death of a comrade, suffered and bled as the ground cried lustfully for more bloodshed. What was her father thinking? Simply put, the elders decided that their little princess needed some personal time with the monsters before starting at the academy so as to give her an 'edge' when she got there. Instead, their little princess faced horrors unknown and kept it to herself. But, there were good times. Soldiers thrived in war, reveled in their passion for victory. A strong camaraderie was formed between them. Yes, those were good times. Even so, everything has an end. The Campaign was declared a success, the body count was discretely edited, and the little girl, declared a war hero, was once more on the way home.

Now, this particular war hero was wrapping herself in a thick towel as she stepped out of the bathroom of her private suite on the massive Airship Marquard. a lavish crystal powered vehicle complete with miniature formal gardens and a golden ball room. She had just arrived from the campaign a week ago, but still spent the whole time buried in paperwork while the elders declared some random festival that she mutely ignored. They bestowed their infinite wisdom upon her and endlessly ranted about the merits of excelling in school, especially the school that she would be going to. Vanerin just smiled then packed her bags. Some war hero, huh?

All the papers needed for her transfer were in place
and a small smile of relief flowered on her face as she ran her fingers over her short
blond hair. She remembers carelessly hacking at it with her sword when it got too long, a habit she had reluctantly formed when she had graduated from the preparatory academy, much to the elders dismay as they hinted that they would also be in the process of securing a suitable suitor for her in the future.

A discreet tap at her door alerted her to the presence of Seymour, a tall, blond man who was appointed as her official companion since she was born. He appeared an intimidating man, yet a placid smile was on his face as he announced that they were already within the proximity of the city and would be landing very soon. Vanerin nodded back, a rare smile on her face, as the door closed and fog lifted to give her a glimpse of her destination. The Cathedral of Light seemed to break out in an array of dazzling prisms as the unchecked smile held in place. "

"This city might be something after all..."
