Chapter 3
Small men, big mouths

You know, living in a run down apartment full of low lives, you think you'd have a hard time sleeping right? That's not the case for me. I slept like a baby. In fact that's probably the best sleep I've had in a long time. Well let's see what time it is. Wow! 9:30 a.m.

This room has a shower? I never noticed that. The things you notice when you don't expect to find anything. OK now that's over with lets see what I still have on this list. Grocery's are done, still need clothes. Alright that shouldn't be hard, but I still haven't gotten an idea yet what I am looking for.

" I told you two for the last time, if you don't have that cash by Friday, your out the door!" I presume that is the manager outside. " We will have it man, I promise, we just are having a hard time finding some doe." That reason is because their always using it to buy crack. " You two better start paying, hell b***h, why don't you just go out there and whore like every other pile of scum in this place. " Hey man!, watch your tone that's my girl friend, no one talks to her like that!"

" I can do what ever I like, and watch your mouth you pile of s**t, before I get my boys to get down here and cut it out" I think it's time he stop. Excuse me sir, but I think that is enough. It seem for an instant that grotesque face on this small little man went from white to red in 2.3 seconds. " Who the hell do you think you are?" "My names Sam." "Well, Sam go ******** off, you have no business in this!" I smiled at him. "Yes, but I'm sure the health inspector would love to know about the rats and cockroaches in the plumbing."

He then just looked at me, his eyes were fixed on me. I could tell he was scared and pissed at the same time. " You know man, you got a smart mouth" "I know I do, and I promise they are not meant to kiss the a** of pathetic cockroaches like you. You think you can just push a people. I then started to walk toward him. Brute force and a couple threats, you're all talk. You little insolent swine. The things I could do to you." I realized then I had to back down.

I think I scared him. He peed himself! " You.. you..you don't know who your messing with, I got friends in high places!" "I do suppose then i should worry. Then again I could just go to your room when your sleeping and slowly cut your heart out. Personally I like idea B,don't you? " "You wouldn't really do that?"Try me."

"We don't have to resort to that man." "I'll do what ever you like." "Fine, then let these two stay here for free. " What!?" "You heard me, also i like a newspaper at my door everyday." "That all?" I grinned. "I also want you to fix this place up, put what ever dirty money you have into fixing it. Got me?" " You have to be kidding me?" "Nope, or do i need to make your fingers into a neck less and your heart into an evening meal."

"OK man, but no freaking promises" " I guess this place could use some touch ups. Some things here, some things there, yeah this could look real nice." He walked off down stairs. Now to buy some new clothes." "Thanks man for what you did" " No ones ever done any thing like that for us." "Don't mention it, but I think maybe you should try to stop letting that crack rule your lives.

" We are trying man, I mean it we are." " Its just hard, you know what I mean?" "If that is so maybe try a clinic. Either way if you want a life for that girl, you better first fix the one you got." "Thanks man, i don't know if it will work, but I'll try." I went downstairs and out the door. The day seems like a foreign spirit. There is no light in the world I live. " I promise" We promise a lot of things we cant keep.
