Ancient story tellers kept the world as a better place by instilling good morals in the children they were tasked with entertaining. Then the printed word came along and suddenly, people with a malicious lust for power had a potent tool for manipulating young minds. And here we are today, when the lobotomy box (sorry, the TV) and the government approved educational texts have usurped our responsibility for setting the community standards, for their own nefarious gains.
The stories I search for, both of my own creation and in the excellent work of others are aimed at inserting realism, as opposed to materialism, nationalism and dubious spiritualism into a population that is starving for optimism.
How can you make the world better? By reading interesting works, or by writing of the better world you would like to live in.
