I really dislike when there is a situation like this:
"OMG I, like, really loveeeee animalz! I wanna become a veterinarian so I can hang out with animals ALL day! They are just soooo kute and kuddly and oh so niiice! 4laugh !~"
"So, how do you like biology, chemistry, and physics?"
"Oh, I took biology twice. Why would I take chemistry or physics? I LOVE ANIMALZZZ!!!!!!"
OKay. When I read something, I know three things.
a.) That person is disillusioned and essentially naiieve (sp?).
b.) That person won't become a veterinarian.
c.) People won't take me seriously.
First of all, veterinarians don't "hang out" with animals all day--a majority of the time is talking with owners and communicating with them and the veterinary staff, no matter if you are in a clinic or a zoo. The other time you are shoving thermometers up animals' butts, sticking your hand down their throats, and you are very likely to get peed on and bit.
Second of all, just by the way they write, spell, and express themselves tells me and everyone else that they aren't serious (maybe this is presumptious of me, but intelligent) enough to pursue veterinary medicine. Much less pursue the science behind the passion.
Last of all, this makes me hesitant to tell people I would like to be a veterinarian. They don't know that I love the sciences; especially biology and everything related to the study of life. They won't know that I have a healthy respect and admiration for animals beyond their sometimes cute appearance. They don't know that I took biology twice--once for honors, then AP. They don't know that I have what it takes to do the nasty parts of administering and diagnosing cures.
I am sorry for ranting. a;sldkjfa;sldjf. This is like discrimination for me.
