A Shigami is the god of death who has a note book called death note (also a name of an anime book). He can see the lifespan of any human and can also see their names. A shigami can also be bound to a human and have to serve him/her. That only happens when a human finds the shigami's note book. every time a Shigami wrights down a name the humans life span adds to the shigami's life span. if a shigami forgets to add a name to the note book after a long period of time the shigami will die and turn to dust. The shigami have nothing to do so only a few go down to earth on purpose and hand a human a note book. The Shigami are very intertained what the human does with their new power to control death. Another way a shigami can die is if it kills someone to expand the life span of a human. Another way that happens is if a shigami falls inlove with a human.
